My dog does a better job of trimming reeds. This thing only scores the reed; it doesn't actually cut the end off. It isn't worth the trouble to return it. I should have known better so shame on me!

It’s ok. Is not a French made Cordier but it does the job.

Part at the back that is supposed to position the reed for a symetric cut is substantially too wide for ordinary clarinet reeds. May work for sax or Bass clarinet reeds. Had to send it back.

I was looking a reasonably priced cutter. Unfortunately it cuts unevenly and splinters the reed.

The product is exactly what's shown in the photo. However, there is no illustration as to how to use the clipper. It would be a good idea to insert some kind of usage directions in the package for the user's convenience.

My 11 year old daughter was able to trim some reeds and get more life on them.

My daughter has wanted reed clippers for a while now. I bought these thinking of an inexpensive gift that would be cute in a stocking. She really likes them. There are others out there that probably have better quality, but these work just fine for the small clippings she does to her reeds.

This trimmer is a fraction of the cost of a name brand trimmer and does take a while to arrive. The part that cuts the reed is all metal, and is machined well it cuts the reed cleanly. This is exactly what I needed and why I am leaving a 5 star review. The part that cuts the reed may be a little narrow, even with very careful alignment it is hard to get a nice symmetrical cut. If you are off by a millimeter there is a notch left on one edge of the reed. Rico's are a little narrower than a Vandoren. I could get a clean cut with the Vandoren but I needed to move into bright light to get it aligned just right. The Rico was easier. The plastic guide at the base end does lay the reed flat and works that way, although it is way too wide to be used for alignment purposes. There is no end guide, which would probably be too deep anyway, so I had to flip the tool over back and forth. The back side to get the proper depth, the side with the reed to get the alignment right.I have only made about 10 cuts, but the plastic body that holds the metal die looks as if it should hold up.So in Summary with very careful attentive use it can do the job.
