It was ok. Kind of tough to extend and the material for the strap doesn’t seem real durable. Great item if you don’t plan on using it a whole lot. Here and there for cosplay or display or something Of that sort.

This is absolutely awesome. I don't understand how people call it non functional. There are a total of three brass section you can pull out as you can see in the picture and then you push in or pull out to focus on any object. At its most extended,it will focus on the closest thing and then as you make it shorter it will start focusing on stuffs further away from you. Crystal clear images. I can read a book with tiny letters 10 feet away from it if I can keep it steady. Highly impressed at this price point given the build quality. It should be sold for more than thrice the price at the least. At current price of less than 20, it's a steal.

The telescope I received was just brass with no leather. It had no cap like pictured. It was very plain and not as described.I didn't know this until my step father opened it up as a Christmas gift and now it's going to be difficult to get a refund...Not the Christmas surprise I was hoping for. That being said the pain brass telescope i received works mechanically as described.

I must say I’m impressed with this telescope. The details in the leather and brass are great. Before extending it, the telescope is 7 1/2 inches. Fully extended it’s almost 20 inches long. I purchased it for a photo prop and also for my office because I love vintage things. It looks better in person than online. Plus, I think the leather smells great. Love it!

This is heavy duty and definitely antique looking! Works very well. Very pleased! The case is real leather although the strap is abit dry, so I do commend conditioning it! Otherwise highly recommended product! When folded up it was a perfect size!! Made an awesome gift!!!

Okay, to start let me say a few things about a few of the other reviews plus add a few tips for how to use this thing. The smell a few people are complaining about.... It's the smell of actual cured leather, the pink tone people are complaining about is because the leather is naturally tanned, it isn't dyed fake crap and for this price point I have no idea how they can afford it. My only guess is that the leather used on this thing is small enough that they can use cast offs and small cuttings from some larger manufacturer in China. If you're worried about it having a slight pink hue you can either dye it or just wait, over time natural leather will darken and take on a more brownish color.Next, for all the reviews saying it doesn't focus no matter what part you spin....... That's because it isn't a camera... You push the sections in or out to focus at different distances. Finally, don't press the eye piece directly against your eye lid, you're supposed to have somewhere between an inch and half an inch space between your eye and the eye piece, that way you can align the forward glass (large lens at the end) with the viewing glass (smaller lens you look through). If you don't align the two correctly with your field of vision you'll essentially be using the small lens to look at the inside of one of the brass sections (ie. Looking at the insides of the monoscope instead of looking THRU the monoscope). So far I've used this thing to check out the moon, got a pretty good view of a barely visible green comet that passed thru this week, and tested it out trying to read passing Hull numbers while at anchor in Boston harbor. I'm honestly astonished this thing is as good as it is.The only modification I've made is that I glued in a small strip of cork along the insides of the lens cap and made it a bit more water tight, might last on the boat a bit longer that way hopefully. As a last idea, if you really want to practice using this thing, try looking through a window with a screen in it. With practice, you will be able to focus the lenses to bring the screen mesh itself into focus, then refocus past to whatever's close up to the window, then refocus even further out to whatever's a moderate distance away, and finally focus out to whatever is the furthest objects in your field of vision. It's actually pretty neat and feels kind of like you're fazing straight thru the screen. This monoscope really is awesome, it's completely useable, hefty, made with astonishingly good materials, has a great case design, and is for lack of a better word completely perfect.

I almost never review items, but I took a risk on this spyglass and want to clarify existing reviews, since their mixed nature was not helpful. This item is not a precise monoscope, but it is not just decorative. You fully extend the spyglass, then push the nearest (and narrowest) segment in until it focuses. This is not especially precise, but the segments were smoothly fitted together. It is generally not worth using this for anything closer than 200'. As an aside, I am near-sighted and it still works well for me - only binoculars need offsetting focuses to keep images clear. The leather was of acceptable quality- it looked a little paler in natural light, but shades are always hard to represent online. I plan on using some dye to darken the leather, it is easy to do if you look it up online and follow directions exactly.TL:DR- It is worth the money, if you want precision buy a modern version with a tripod. This will be a cosplay piece for a friend but it is functional (within its natural limits).

I got more than I was expecting. The telescope has an authentic air to it. It feels like it has weight to it. and really works as a telescope. The strap makes it easy to attach to a belt, or just easier to carry. I got it for costume. But, now I have it sitting on my shelf because it just looks that cool!
