Product Description

Prevent heat and moisture build-up with the Broan® 356BK Powered Attic and Garage Ventilation Fan. Attics can reach over 150°F in summer, warming your living area, increasing the air-conditioning load and your energy bill. In winter, ice dams can form, and moist air can condense causing mildew, rotting wood and wet insulation. Year-round attic ventilation ensures a cooler, drier attic which can extend the life of your roof and air conditioner, while lowering air conditioning expense. Besides the attic, this ventilation fan is also designed for one, two three and four car garages. Say goodbye to unbearable heat, humidity and unwanted smells that accumulate in the garage.

Es bueno, sin embargo el precio es demasiado alto, ya que la tapa negra es plastica.

Installed new but when it reaches turn on temperature, it only runs for about a minute then shuts off for about 20 secs then starts up again. The cycle repeats all day long. I believe it is a defective thermostat. According to the Instruction manual that came in the box, the part number for the adjustable thermostat is 99030144.

When I purchased I did not see anything discussing this product being specific to a shingle style roof so when I got the product and there were no instructions for a metal roof, I went online and watched some videos. After watching videos it seemed that I could bend the flashing to the shape of the roof and screw down. The flashing on this unit is thick and hard to bend but I did it and found that it warped the housing around the fan so the fan blade would strike the housing. Long story made short is that I had to cut out a section of the housing and then rivet on a piece of flashing to the housing (to cover the area I cut out), to allow enough room for the fan blade to spin. It took me a whole Saturday to install but it is working like a charm. My thoughts on the product:1. If this was installed on a shingle roof installation would be easy. Get power to your hole that you cut in the roof and hook it up. Do not use on a metal roof. I am not sure if there is one designed for a metal roof, I suppose if not you could do the gable style attic fan.2. I had a remote thermometer that I placed in the attic and was reaching temps over 140 F degrees. With this fan (only attic fan for a 2,000 SF attic and metal roof), running it has lowered my temps in the attic by 40 degrees. I believe the hottest the attic has reached with the fan is 102 F degrees..3. I placed the fan towards the center of the roof, which is near my bedroom and you certainly can hear the fan running. It moves a lot of air so you should expect some noise. If I did it again I would move the fan more towards an area of the house where no one would care about the humming sound. Heck, call it white noise and you can charge more for the unit! Just joking.4. There is a temperature adjustment nob to set when the fan will turn on and off. the nob is oriented down into the attic making it impossible to adjust from the roof. They probably have to do that so someone does not try to adjust it with the power on and have the fan kick on and whack their fingers, but it certainly would be nice to be able to set the temp from the roof instead of wading through 50 to 60 feet of loose insulation to get to the fan to adjust the setting.Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to another if they have a shingle roof.

My 10 year old Broan (which died) was a 1100 cfm this one is 1600 cfm, also the fan blade design is totally different. It is noisier than my old one because it's moving much more air, but it's not annoying. However the fan kept turning on & off in short periods, so I had to take the temperature sensor box off & remote it away from the fan so that the fan would stay on longer & cool the attic. It's stupid having the temperature sensor right next to the fan because it cools the sensor before the attic is cool.

I bought this and didn't like it right out of the box!First off was the cheap plastic covered dome! How many years do you think that is going to last before it splits and leaks water right into your attic. Then guess where the water goes from there? Right through your ceiling! Won't have that problem with the normal metal domes!!!Also they mounted the thermostat right beside the motor which also is right up under the cheap plastic dome. Guess what happens next? Inaccurate temp readings of your attic with the sun beating down on the black plastic lid so it kicks the fan on way sooner than what it should for what temp you want your attic to get to before kicking the fan on. It should be at least two feet away from the vent/motor like all other normal fans! When this thing started up it was the nosiest fan I have ever heard! It sounded about like a jet engine. You could hear it from just about any where in the house and you could sure hear it any where from outside the house! This unit only lasted a little over a month before I heard it one day kicking on and off. Long story short the motor was getting hot and the unit was going into thermo cut out. I went into the attic and felt the motor and it was definitely hot. Just to make sure I turned the thermostat down to where I could hear the contacts inside it make contact. At that point the fan should have turned on but it was definitely in thermo cut out. So.............. it was short lived and was getting replaced.I bought and installed one like I installed in a previous house I had about six years ago with the same CFM as this and I had to cut this hole out an inch and a half bigger. Also my new one has a five blade fan as this one had a four blade with a steeper pitch. So, smaller hole, four blades at a steeper angle and 1600 CFM? No wonder it sounded like a jet engine. The motor bushings were still quiet and the fan spun freely so I have no idea why the motor was over heating and kicking off.Needless to say I carefully removed this unit as to no to tear up any shingles and I carefully launched it off of my roof twenty feet onto the ground! Best I've liked it since the day I got it!

I am not a handy guy but this was easy to install. There are videos on youtube you should watch if you are new to DIY. You will need electrical wiring as it does not come with it. Also, roof sealant (like caulk but in roofing isle).Took me about 1.5 hours including breaking a saw blade. It has been up for 3 days in Georgia. It is 90+ degrees with a heat index over 100 every day since installation. For the first time since I have owned the house, the AC is keeping up. And cycling. It has never done that before. I am seeing a 15 degree difference between inside and out now. That is outstanding.Yep, you can hear the unit. From the inside, when you are near the attic door. But other than that it is a dull sound in the background. Some of my ceiling fans make more noise than this.If this thing lasts, it was the biggest no-brainer ever. I highly recommend it.One detraction: The PVC top does not fit quite right. It contorts a bit. But I could care less. I can't see it :-).
