As others have stated, the pole has very very loose connections between each part. It is not possible to use it out of the box. It can be simply fixed by putting a small piece of duct tape around each of the joints. The fact that petroleum jelly is provided to help join the pieces is humorous. Clearly a spec change has resulted in poorer quality build. Now that I have it, to be honest, you don't need to get the Brome pole, just get a cheap one and stick the connector and feeder on top and save yourself $50

This 1” bird feeder pole is excellent quality, like all of the squirrel buster components and priced accordingly . It is thick walled enough to be stiff in strong wind with the bird feeder on top. It screwed easily into my hard ground but I drove a 1/2” rebar first as a vertical pilot hole.

I configured my unit to work in a wood frame on my balcony wood deck because I don't want holes in the grass areas along with seed and shells. The metal pieces are very rigid and fit together nicely. I am happy.

The interlocking poles have a surprisingly loose fit. That is what makes the unit a little wobbly. The pole that went into the ground is solid - everything that attaches to it has a bit of play and the bird feeder isn't even attached yet. Functionally it might be just fine. I mitigated the play a little with teflon plumber's tape, but it's still not as solid as I would want.I will update as the winter bird feeding season progresses here.Update: Bumped up to 4 stars. I have had some strong gusts here for the past two days and while there is some play in the pole, the piece that is in the ground is rock solid and not moving. The pole has a squirrel buster, weather shield and seed catcher on it. I'm optimistic it will hold up to a winter storm.Update: This pole with the seed catcher, squirrel buster and weather shield are working great. I just can't give it 5 stars because there is too much play in the pole. I contacted Brome and they made it this way by design so people can disassemble it and move it around more easily. I personally want my bird feeder pole to be locked in tight and solid even if it came in three pieces. It's extremely light and easy to move around in one piece. I would recommend going back to the tighter fitting design.
