Worked just right. My 1 year old $200 car battery, went unused for 5 months as it was in a collector car in storage. After several recharge cycles, the voltage never got over 11V so the starter wouldn't spin - one dead cell per this meter. I took the battery out and spent a week desulfating it using a series of high voltage (15V) charge cycles and 15 amp discharge cycles to heal the bad cell. It worked. This meter let me see the CCA improvement after each cycle. It now reads 95% of the rated CCA. I chose this one as it had a 6V capability too under the motorcycle page, but it provides like 300+ batteries to select from and so you have to know which one you have (see pic). My 6V Titan T105s used in a solar bank were not on the list, and it only checks CCA/CA just like a car battery which isn't all that valuable for deep cycle batteries. Amp-Hour was what I was hoping for, but CA is OK to use to help see loading performance improvements. This one, I think, is the same as the VDIAGTOOL BT300 which at the time was $5 more. I'm keeping it.

I tested this on two vehicle batteries, one three months old and another 4 years old. The new battery tested good, as expected. The older battery, while still starting the vehicle normally, is near the end of its life in this hot southern climate. The tester identified it as needing replacement, whether I tested it partially discharged or fully charged. The tester can also check the charging and starting system, and you can download test results to a computer for printing. Printing and downloading requires installing software from their website, which I did not do as I do not install unknown software from unknown sources. The tester is powered by the battery under test, there is no internal battery to keep the screen on when disconnected. The problem here is that while the display is okay inside a garage, it is very hard to read outdoors. The white text on a yellow background is nearly impossible to read, and you can’t disconnect it and take it inside to read the results.

It is easy to use and has rich functions. It can measure cars and motorcycles and detect waveforms. It is very convenient.

A little more complicated than my old tester with a heating coil and analog meter. It will do more test but need to keep the manual with it for testing.

I have a few batteries that have issues, so I decided to pick up a battery tester. The one in the pictures is a lawn mower that constantly needs jumped, so I wanted to make sure the battery itself was good. The unit is actually powered by the battery that you are testing, so it's as easy as hooking up your positive and negative and then entering your CCA. I was able to run it off of a powerbank on a completely flat battery, but I think it will work best if I charge the suspect battery first, and then test so that I get a true reading. The screen is bright, the clamps are strong, the unit feels sturdy, and it works well as a quick check on a battery you're unsure of.

Many may begin having power problems in a car and instantly assume the battery is the cause. Yet an alternator not recharging the battery can be the real problem. This will test each to see where the real problem is. You just select the test and it tells you what to do (like rev the engine for the alternator test, etc). Pretty easy to use, just need to learn a few terms like "SOH" for battery "State of health" and "SOC" for "State of charge". I even had a teen with drivers permit try it out and it wasn't too hard for him. Some shops may try to say "You need everything replaced" and charge a bunch for little, so don't be afraid to check it yourself for a lot less.
