A young Kansas blacksmith apprentice named Hoyt Buck was looking for a better way to temper steel so it would hold an edge longer. His unique approach produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt made each knife by hand, using worn-out file blades as raw material. His handiwork was greatly appreciated during World War II. Hoyt's eldest son Al had relocated from the Pacific Northwest to San Diego California after finishing a stint in the navy a decade earlier. Hoyt and his wife Daisy moved in with Al and his young family in 1945 and set up shop as H.H. Buck and Son. Following the death of his father, Al kept the fledgling custom knife business going until incorporating Buck Knives, Inc. in 1961. Al introduced his son, Chuck, to the knife business at an early age and Chuck and his wife, Lori, were both involved when the company was incorporated. In 1964, the knife industry was revolutionized with the introduction of the Model 110 Folding Hunter, making Buck Knives a leader in the field. A position we hold proudly today. Chuck worked his way up through the company serving as President and CEO for many years before handing over the reins to his son, CJ, in 1999. Chuck remained active as Chairman of the Board until his passing in 2015. Lori now serves on the Board of Directors and is actively involved with Buck promotional events throughout the U.S., continuing Chuck's legacy

I wanted a carbon fiber EDC. Size is decent but I just cannot use one hand to open this one. Also it took a while for this item to ship. But it is BUCK. So I kept it.

I like it so much I bought a second one . Great quality. Keeps an edge. Good sturdy pocket clip. Love the push button safety release. Highly recommend this knife.

I got the carbon fiber one. It is not real carbon fiber, just a cover that makes it look like it. As soon as it gets a scratch, you can see the stainless steel under it. The black coating on the blade is not very resistant. I haven't used my knife much, and it is coming off already. Also, I don't think it holds an edge that well. I used to open some mail, was sharp out of the box, but I hard to re-sharpen it after 30 or so letters. If you decide to go with this knife, despite that, I'd recommend sticking with the stainless one.

Another magnificent Buck product, brings together elegance, functionality, and incredible manufacturing ingenuity. Pairs wonderfully with the Buck hexam assist 262 model. Slightly different mechanisms of opening and locking, both delightful. This company is an American national treasure.

Having grown up in a family who enjoyed all activities outdoors, I have been around Buck knives all my life. They were, and are, the gold standard my dad and uncles judged all other work or hunting knives by. I was looking for a pocketknife I could carry around for general utility that wasn’t big and bulky but large and durable enough to be of real use on DIY projects, or out in the woods or along a stream bank. This Buck lock blade pocketknife was a “no-brainer” to order when it popped up in my search. The knife is beautifully done and engineered for durability and function. The Modified Clip style of the blade is perfect shape for the work I intend to use it for. The 3 ¼ inch blade comes out of the box incredibly sharp and should be fairly straightforward to keep that way if it’s anything like the Buck knives of my youth. The carbon fiber handle has a good hand-feel and is easy to maintain a non-slip grip. The knife also features the ability to open it with a quick snap of the wrist and lock it into place. Release is accomplished with a simple button push. There is a pocket clip to help keep it secure and within easy reach.I must point out that the knife I ordered, the carbon fiber 744 Sovereign (the mini is a 743), is not manufactured in the U.S. as a lot of Buck knives are but is imported. In this case, the Country of Origin is China, which is stamped on the box. This is not a big deal to me, but I have known some Buck-purists who want only a U.S. made Buck knife. With that said, the Amazon item description relays that these knives are covered under the “…Buck Knives' Forever Warranty.” I checked the Buck website (who is also the seller for these knives on Amazon) to verify just what was covered and these knives have the same lifetime, defect free warranty as any other Buck knife—nice!Overall, I am super stoked over my new Buck knife. I can’t wait to show it off to my little brother which I know will have him all sorts of “jelly” over it. He has a birthday coming up so perhaps I’ll order another for him—only the 743 Mini Sovereign as he is my little brother after all—Ha!

My go to EDC knife is the now-classic Senrenmu 7010. This buck knife is an upgrade to it in almost every way.First off, it feels better in my hand, mostly due to it's larger size, and the smartly placed indentation on the grip. Even though it's larger than my Senrenmu, it weighs almost the same amount: 3.7 ounces compared to the 3.1 of the 7010.What really sets this pocket knife apart is the ability to whip the blade out one-handed, using the button lock, located where your thumb naturally rests on the grip. Seriously, once you get the timing down, it's faster than the index-finger-deploy pocket knives. I've always liked Buck knives due to their weight and durability, but carried a Senrenmu 7010 daily due to it's less conspicuous looks. This Buck knife is the perfect blend of that form and function - plus it's the fastest blade for self-defense, not named switchblade.
