If is basically a tiny clip if the wire is thick it will break.

The wire clip and retainer mechanism are for VERY small diameter wires only. When it says earbud, that is about the biggest diameter of a single side wire that you could use. I have a clip on my headset/microphone. The wire is not large, but larger than these clips. It is about the diameter of two single ear bud wires encased in a single sleeve. After breaking about 5 of each kind of clip, I realized it just had no give. The wire retainer clips are quite fragile. They won't take much bending and they snap off clean. My solution was to remove all high edges on my old clip (as the wire retainer was still working fine) and glue one of the small clips on the end of my old clip, so the teeth will still grab my shirt. Not ideal, but it worked. For the price, I couldn't have come up with a better solution...other than if it had fit my wire. But, I knew it was a gamble when I bought it. If the wire retainers were metal instead of plastic, it would have been able to bend and fit the wire.
