2005 Yamaha v star 650 classic. The old pick up coil tested at .5Mohms. This new one tested correctly at roughly 200ohms. Replaced and bike ran like new.

As Indiana Jones said, “only the penitent man will pass”. And, I AM penitent. And, like Gandalf, I SHALL PASS! ;-)Understand, please, that I bought this as a sort of test, if you will. I have a 2002 VStar 1100 and this item, described and sold as fitting a VStar 650, IS NOT associated with that model bike. But a little research showed that it may well be an acceptable replacement for a failed 1100 pickup coil. Form, fit and function are all the same, it seems. It did bolt right into place, the wires were long enough to reach the plug and the resistance of the 650 coil is the same as that quoted for the 1100 coil. Por que no? Give 'er a shot, I thought.Well, it turns out that the old coil was not the sole cause of the problem and the installation of the Caltric coil did not make my troubles go away. It's not the fault of the Caltric part nor is it a problem associated with Amazon.BUT!!! And, you really knew that a "but" was coming didn't you?Compared with the Yammy OEM part, the Caltric part seems a bit flimsy. The wires are the same gauge as those of the Yammy but the insulation just doesn't impart a sense of comfort. But that's not the only problem with the wires. They are color coded different from the original. And, while that's not a problem in and of itself, couple that with a COMPLETE LACK Of SUPPORTING INFORMATION OR INSTRUCTIONS concerning installation contained within the package, a less than fully competent technician (Please meet Yours Truly) would have trouble. Now, it's my understanding that this item (like my OEM part) is nothing but a coil and, thus, doesn't have a + or a - (positive or negative) input/output. And, armed with that understanding, I completed the installation and it seemed to work...but didn't solve my problem.A quick call to Caltric (well, really a number of quick calls) rapidly identified that Caltric has no customer service. Over the course of 3 days (the actual number of calls is not remembered...but 2-3/day, I think) indicated that someone named Robert or James or some such named person neither answered his computer answering system forwarded calls nor returned his automated voicemail. Reviewing others' reviews reflect a similar inability to enjoy having consensual verbal intercourse with them. Caltric may well be nothing more than a single 400 pound guy lying in a bed somewhere buying stuff off from Alibaba. I don't know that to be true but I just believe it's a real possibility.I have nothing good to say about Caltric except that their part probably worked. Amazon might be well served to talk to them about their customer service. I've used their brake pads with good results but I never needed anything from them other than just delivering the product...which they did.

The colors don't match the factory, there are no instructions, and they told me on the phone that the don't have any technical support. They can't tell me which wire is supposed to go where. I am very nervous now, what company doesn't know how their product is supposed to be wire up? I can't believe that there are no reviews telling people that it is a guessing game.
