I like the idea of a filter connection for all of my EF lenses. I don't have to carry a variety of sizes in my bag. I do wish there was a device like this for RF lenses to be attached to R Mount cameras.

Great product, all my EF lenses live. Especially the filter design is great, I like it very much.

I got this for my EOS R and it fits and works perfectly. I thoroughly enjoy the variable ND filter being able to adjust it on the fly without having to switch screw-on filters which is frustrating and-time consuming. It is much easier, more convenient, and such a time saver. The quality of this unit is typical Canon quality and works very smoothly with just a turn of the dial. You can also remove the ND filter completely and replace it with another, or with the clear glass filter if you prefer no ND filter at all. I with this unit came with the glass (neutral) filter as a standard so you don't have to purchase something just to fill the hole if you don't want to use a filter at all. This is really the only negative thing I have to say about it, other than the high price. I was shocked to see the price tag for this simple little adapter, which is more than I paid for my first Canon DSLR camera (a refurbished t5i).

If you've read any reviews at all of this, you will have heard complaints of the dark blue color cast at max setting and an adjustment wheel that's so loose you'll be tempted to insert a piece of cardboard or something to make it stiffer. Believe these reviews. They're all accurate. You'll also have heard that it's unforgivable that Canon did not include a clear filter in a product of this price range. You can believe that, too.So what you're left with is a deeply flawed product and a bad taste in your mouth, since you know that Canon is well aware of these defects but can't be bothered to fix them, which from a manufacturer's perspective would not require a great engineering effort. It would, I suppose, require a "Mark II" release and, with it, a tacit acknowledgement that the company released a "Mark I" version with such obvious flaws that they call into question the competence of Canon's engineering and quality control processes in the first place. So would I recommend buying this? No.

The drop-in filter adapter by Canon comes with a variable ND filter already installed. The adapter works seamlessly with my EF lenses on a Canon R5c, and the variable ND filter works well, although it could benefit from click stops. AF and OIS all function without issue.

I love that I’m able to use the new mirror less canon bodies without having to buy all new glass. The built-in ND filter has been a game changer since I’m now able to have way more control over brighter areas without having to sacrifice the shallow depth of field. 10/10

Aside for the cost of entry, this is one of those things that just needs to work as expected to be very good. The image quality is excellent and build quality is very good. The only physical thing I would change is, I would like to have a detent or friction set into the rotation wheel to help it hold a position. As it is, it is very easy to rotate. Also, the final step on the ND stop range really plays with the color balance. I'd suggest staying away from the end stop (which is somewhere around 9-11 stops). Otherwise it has VERY neutral color. The last gripe is the cost. However, it gives you something that no other system gives you so there is a value to it. You just have to decide if this convenience is worth it to you.

Great product. A little more expensive than I’d like, but it has pretty low color change throughout the range and it’s great that it works with all my EF glass. Would also like if it had an option to be set to 0 stops. I mainly use this for video on and EOS R.

First off, awesome idea by Canon. It's amazing and I love it for video. Makes life so much easier on all my lenses for run and gun stuff. However, that horrible blue tint. For 399 you'd think canon would up the quality control. But for those of you who had bad luck but really need this product, I found the fix. It's a simple matter of realigning the gear. In the picture I have the screw circled. Mark the spot on the filter part where the blue shift is gone, then unscrew the gear, put the filter case on max, then re insert the gear and screw it in. Now your max is set before the blue shift so you won't accidentally hit it anymore. For Variable nd beginners, blue shift is generally common in variables with a wide range. It seems canon chose one of these but their qc would mess up on the gear stop that keeps the nd within its useable range. With his fix, you can now use your nd safely without worry.
