I'm new to photography. Bought a Canon 6D last year and wanted a decent, affordable telephoto lense. After reading reviews, I'm glad I stopped at this one. While I personally don't have another telephoto to compare it to, this 100-300 has placed a smile on this amateur's face. The lense itself is very sharp. Others have mentioned mild chromatic aberration (which is minimal). That can exist with any lense and can be mitigated by cranking down the ISO and post processing. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I have wanted the 100 - 300 mm lens for a long time. I finaly bought it and I love it. It does everything I need it to do and the pictures are very good.

I’m a amateur at photography, so I was skeptical about purchasing a used lens. I needed something with a bit more power and tried a 3rd party lens but the pictures weren’t sharp enough to my taste. I decided to go name brand but stay within a budget and this lens was perfect! The condition is excellent! It looks brand new and the photos are crisp! I haven’t tested the motor for the autofocus yet (I’m a manual focus guy) but I’m sure it’s fine. Both lens glasses are clean, zoom & telephoto rings nice and smooth. It came packaged very well so no no damage would occur during shipping. When I read the reviews about this seller I thought that some may be exaggerated but after receiving the product, I see that they weren’t.If you’re reading this review that means that you’re considering a purchase from them. I would highly recommend buying from them and when I’m looking for future products that fit my need, I’ll be checking with them first.I hope this review helps with your purchase decisions!!! I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

I think at times we look at these adds and wonder, will it really work...well thanks. It worked. Reason I picked this up, we have wildlife that comes to our backyard. I really don't have hobbies and I do get pleasure in seeing them eat the corn we put out. Here's one of my first.

For the price, this lens really can't be beat, especially for a beginning photographer who's still learning. I purchased it after hours wading through reviews and comparisons, and mistakenly thought it would work for macro shots. Don't make the same mistake! This requires a significantly further focusing distance than macro or typical kit lenses. Due to my mistake, it sat unused for a while until I took it to a comic convention where I discovered that it's pretty much perfect for taking panel photos. The wide zoom range allowed me to get a good variety of shots from less than stellar seats, and when I did have decent seats the shots turned out gorgeous, even on a lower end Canon T3i body. This lens has become my go-to for covering similar events, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other uses I can get out of it.Why I took off a star: In lower light settings I found image blur to be an occasional issue with animated subjects. More manual controls (I was primarily using full auto) would likely compensate. And as other reviewers mentioned, images aren't as crisp at 300mm as they are at 100mm. The effect isn't drastic, though, and if you're going to be resizing down anyways it's not a deal-breaker.

I'm no professional, but I love taking photos. I have the XTi and only have two lenses so far: the 28-105 and this one, the 100-300. In reading several reviews, I seem to not be alone in this setup.Overall, I absolutely love this lens and haven't had any problems with it in the six months I've had it. My images stay pretty sharp throughout the zoom range and I rarely have light problems. Most notably, I recently used this lens to shoot an evening choir concert at the church where I work. Despite the low light and the distance, I was able to get some well balanced, crisp, and well-lit shots of the people singing. If you're just the average joe-photographer looking for a great telephoto zoom, I'd very highly recommend this lens. If you're any sort of professional, read the more intelligent reviews around here for the information you're looking for.

The Canon EF 100-300 f/4.5-5.6 USM is the best entry level 300mm zoom lens. In order to do any better you have to get into Canon's L line which means a lot more money. Many people, including myself, start off with Canon's EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III USM because of the low price. This lens won't break the bank but is definitely worth the difference. The build quality is much better on the 100-300. Also I have found this lens to be sharper. Along with that, this one has ring-type USM instead of micro USM so it focuses faster and quieter while allowing full time manual focus--you can manually adjust the focus without having to switch between AF and MF. Also, since it uses internal focusing, the front of the lens doesn't rotate or extend when focusing so it is easier to use a circular polarizer. For the money, you can't beat this lens.
