The zipper makes it convenient, easy, and fast to use. You don't have to throw the cover over the top of the umbrella and hope it lands on the top to pull down. It has a wide open that allows for easy access. It's not just a cloth cover. It's a strong, firm cover. I have a 9 foot patio pool umbrella that I use it for. The umbrella pole has a handle that opens and closes it and the cover still fits over it with room to spare. It's not an extremely tight fit. You have space to work with. I always have my umbrella covered unless we're using it. The cover has done an extraordinary job keeping the umbrella safe from wind damage. It also keeps it clean and water hasn't leaked through. This is important because we get a lot of rain in Washington and in the winter everything molds from the dampness if it's not properly taken care of.
