Rebuilt steering gear box for 1996 GMC Yukon K1500 with 152,000 miles (One owner)I didn't install it for 2 months after ordering due to an extended illness so missed my return window, otherwise I would have returned for refund. I replaced it due to a bad leak from the pitman shaft seal of the original steering box. After the first 100 miles on the replacement there was about 5 inches of radial play in the steering wheel. I adjusted the the gearbox in 1/8 turn increments and ended up making one full turn before I got the radial play down to 2 inches. Yes, I checked the steering shaft, linkages, and rag joint; they were fine. It steered okay but required more effort to turn the wheel left than to turn it right. New tires and a front end alignment did not improve the steering. All steering and suspension components have also been replaced.I did a complete strip down, rebuild (Edelmann 8780 kit) and install of the original GM gearbox and it works perfectly. In my opinion, the Cardone 27-7566 Remanufactured Power Steering Gear box was remanufactured with minimal attention to quality and function and I'm out nearly $150 (Current price is about double from 18 months ago.)Hope this is helpful.

Put one of these boxes on my 96 Tahoe 2wd. It is set and sealed from the factory and worked better than my AGR box that I bought that was four times the price.

This was a great deal in April, 2019 when I changed it. Now it's Nov, 2019 and my nightmare. It's 32F outside and trying to change this with nasty carpal tunnel is gonna be painful. So thanks a lot Cardone for nothing. It's leaking like crazy from the pitman arm splined shaft.

I paid $122 for this steering gear and when I sent the core in I got a check for $195.It works good, my original had a little play in it. I was installing a 6" lift on my 96 suburban and decided to replace most of the front end parts while I was at it.

5 stars for initial quality, however amazons listing for this part is incorrect, this fits the 1/2 tons and light duty (7200# GVW, 6 lug) 3/4 ton trucks. If you’re like me and have the 8600# GVW 8 lug you’ll need part number 27-7539, it too can be found here on amazon.

Works Great on my 96 K1500. It's only been a few days now, so we'll see how it goes, but my steering is incredible. I can practically steer with my pinky and I'm running 33" Super Swampers. The only complaints I have, is that they painted all of the splines and threads on the connections. I spent quite a while cleaning them up, so the shaft and pitman arm would slide on properly and it would be nice if they included a new nut for the pitman arm. Other than that, it seems to be working as advertised.

Since not many have tried this, I figured I'd give it a shot. After the rebate, it's a cost roughly $10, why not. This was for my 1996 Silverado. I had replaced every component of my steering system. Pitman and idler arms, end links, replaced the rag joint with a U-joint. This helped a lot, but still had slack in the steering.Gave this a shot, and the steering is a day and night difference. Truck feels much better! This is great, didn't have to adjust it, just install and put new fluid in it. As a note, the steering seemed loose before I put fluid in it. The wheel would wiggle a lot before it seemed to grab, but once i put fluid in the reservoir and burped the system, all the slack went away and it was tight and responsive. The case was painted, which makes it a bit difficult to get the pitman arm and the steering shaft on. I took the steering shaft out and tapped it onto the steering box outside of the truck a few times to make it easy to get on once I got it installed.

Works great, no more loose steering! Paint on the steering shaft made it difficult to slide the coupler over it.
