Based off the back and fourth reviews, I was skeptical at getting a good seal with this handle. I have plastic shower walls, and this sucker sticks! Even when the color shows red, indicating the seal is not sealed, I still have a hard time getting this handle off the wall, it has a very strong suction. I am very impressed.

I've had this brand and model before, and I figured that the people who submitted poor reviews and said it wouldn't stay in place were just not installing it right. Well...they're right! I put up 2 of these at the same time on the same surface. I installed one I bought a while ago at one end of the shower, and the new one at the other end. The surfaces were cleaned and dried the same way. The grab bars were installed the same way. I was very careful to ensure they're resting on tile not grout, pushed all of the way into the tile, and levers flipped all the way down and locked. Both grab bars showed the 'green' locked indicator. The new one won't stay put more than about 5 minutes!! Tried 3 times and it fell all 3 times. Then....my sister suggested dampening the suction cups on the one that wouldn't stay up, and that worked. So the initial one stays up fine with dry suction cups, and the new one needs to have them dampened.

First I used it on tile and that worked great. Then moved it to my apartment, and it stuck very well to my fiberglass (I guess? Solid built in, could be plastic) shower. I ordered another and couldn't get it to go green initially - then I realized the shower wall had a slight curve there. Moved it over a half inch and it worked and hasn't come loose or fallen off. I still test it before each use because the nature of suction cups is that eventually they will loosen. As others have stated, you wouldn't want to put too much weight on it. In my case, I think if the suction didn't fail, it could actually damage the thin fiberglass surface - when you pull on it, the surface flexes because it's not fully adhered to the underlying wall. But in my normal use, most of the force is downward so it doesn't feel too wobbly to use.

This is the 2nd time I bought this product having liked it so much the first time. Now I have for each bath / shower in my 2 Bathrooms. It works as intended, holds in place. Not intended to lift you up from a sitting position but it's perfect if you slip or don't want to slip by holding on to it. You can move to a different location in the shower or bath tile area as needed. Very pleased wit this purchase and much cheaper than having a permanent safety bar added since you need to hire someone with a special drill bit to install so it won't crack or break you tile.

I ordered a short bar and a longer one. The short bar that arrived would not adhere. Carex immediately sent another. I did not installed any of these bars, I had to wait for the landladies handyman to come by and he was very busy. The newer shorter bar adhered for about an hour after the handyman left, then fell off the shower wall. I called the handymn and he said he could not come back for at least a week or longer. About three days after he left the longer bar fell off the shower wall after adhering there for maybe a month. I was fortunate not to be in the shower when these two bars failed. I could have been severely injured as I am 77 years old and disabled. A bit unsteady on my feet which is why I ordered the bars. I would like to have my money back.

Overall one of the best products I have ever bought. One has to be careful about how old their house is because this suctions to the tile and is not screwed into the wall. For a renter, this is a good thing. I am a 30 year paramedic and the suction is great. Let me restate this, a great product, just remember it is suctioned to the tile and the tile could be ripped off of the wall because the suction to the tile is so strong. Great for stabilization NOT for full body weight which is why I rated it 4 stars overall.

It's secure if you follow the installment instructions. Throughly clean the designated attachment area. I wiped the area down with alcohol to ensure that there was no cleaning chemical left. As noted on the grab bar, it is not intended for a person's full weight. It is intended for aiding with stability when getting into or being in the shower/tub and it works well for that purpose. As with any product of this type, you should routinely check the suction grip. I remove it when I clean the shower, then attach it again.I purchased a few grab bars that were a security risk because they didn't attach firmly on the fiberglass wall. This one is secure, reliable. My husband has alzheimer and stability problems. He weighs nearly 250, 5'9" tall and this grab bar works well for him. I actually have 3 bars in the shower. One to support him when he has to step over the side of the tub, another one near the faucet because he has to lean over to turn the water on, and one on the side wall to use while he takes his shower. I also have a tub mat to keep him from slipping. As with anyone with alzheimer, I suggest frequently reminding them to not put all their weight on the suction bars. If they have to put all their weight on the bars it would be best to use bars that firmly screw into the walls.Just an opinion, but I wouldn't use any suction type of grab bar for kids. They could potentially pull out on it and suffer serious injury.I recommend this grab bar for anyone who just needs secure assistance with stability. My tub is a molded fiberglass unit and this bar can securely suction to it. Be advised, many bars are not recommended for fiberglass surfaces.

I had looked at this style before and just wasn't sure about how secure they would be. After surgery, my home health occupational therapist recommended I get these, so I did. I like these because they seem to lock, though it is a bit difficult to close the lock. How well they stay adhered over time depends on the surface. The surface needs to be clean, straight (not warped at all). I got two, and one has remained sturdily affixed since I applied it two months ago. The other one is on a surface area that moves slightly, so the bottom seal loosens over a few days time. I always check both handles before using, and the one that loosens I simply retighten when I check. These are NOT for putting your entire body weight on, but for balance and stability. If a person is very unstable, then screwed in handles need to be installed. For those who just need a bit of help to remain stable, these are good.
