For beginners quite a good value for the money. Very compact design and easy to put together and stash it in the closet when not used.

I purchased my Carlsbro 50 from a local music shop but am leaving a review here because I noticed how few reviews there are of this neat little drum set. There's quite a few reasons why people would opt for this smaller set over a more "complete" electronic drum set. Mine were pretty straightforward:1. Space -- I needed a practice set that would fit next to my desk and not be a chore to set up & get ready every time I want to use it.2. Silence -- Being able to practice with headphones on keeps everyone else in the house happy. (There's still the option to line out to an amp.)3. Utility -- I don't need 50 pieces of drum kit right now; I need a snare and a bass and a pair of sticks. I'm a rank beginner and my focus is on learning to paradiddle without having the sticks go flying out of my hands.Here's what is good about the 50:- Good feedback from the pads. This set includes a snare, a single tom, and a cymbal. Response and feedback from these is excellent. They also provide volume feedback so if I'm working on a crescendo in my rolls I know how well I'm doing.- Solid metronome. A single push of the button and I've got a 4/4 beat at 100 bpm, default. I can quickly change the time down and up to 3/4, 2/4, etc. I can set the beat speed up or down using the Modes panel.- Highly adjustable. You can set the height and configure the arms to set the snare and tom at different angles. The control board can be moved around, too, so if it's bothering you in one position just shift it. The cymbal angle can be adjusted fast with the quick-twist knob on its mount.- Good height for any user. Forget the "Junior" designation on this product. It's for all ages. You can sit in a chair or use a proper drum stool and adjust the height to what's comfortable for you.- MIDI OUT option. You can plug this into your PC to integrate it with drumming software.- Free lessons. You get 50 free lessons (online) with your purchase.Here's what's bad:- Bass pedal. This is a total miss and a real disappointment. You have to stomp on it to get any sound at all -- nice workout, but you can't keep in time with the metronome or anything else. It sounds fine by itself but in combination it interferes with the sounds from the pads -- either it cancels them out, or they cancel out the bass sound. I've stopped using it and I just tap my foot instead. If this were the only kit I got to evaluate as a beginner, it would put me off of electronic drum sets entirely. Luckily, I tried out a friend's Alessi kit, and I use a full drum kit at band practice and now know that bass pedals are supposed to operate smoothly and not give you Popeye-sized calf muscles.- Cables. I'd prefer the cable connectors to be double-ended; instead they are hard-wired into the control board. If a cable fails, that's the end of this kit's usefulness.- Snare vibration. The entire pad vibrates so much that the cable connector routinely works itself out of its socket after a few minutes of drumming. I can't get through a warm-up without having to readjust the connector.So, is the Carlsbro worth the price? I think the only standout elements are the kit's compact footprint and its durability. It will stand up to a five-year-old hyped up on gummi bears and Baby Shark video loops, and it holds up against an adult drummer hyped up on coffee and failed dreams. But there are so many competing electronic drum sets that sit comfortably in the same price range and offer more pads and more control board options. This really needs to be a sub-$200 kit. And for God's sake, improve that bass pedal or get rid of it.
