The Cash Acme FWL-2 14721-0150 1/2 inch Pressure Relief Valve is a pressure only safety relief valve designed specifically for the protection of hot water supply systems where over-pressure conditions are likely to occur as a result of thermal expansion. Completely automatic, the FWL-2 relief valve resets after pressure relief. The safety relief valve may be installed directly on the tank or in a tee and is appropriate for either side (hot or cold) of the water heater. The FWL-2 is fitted with a bronze body, brass and stainless-steel internal parts, a silicone seat disc and a stainless-steel pressure spring. The FWL-2 valve is compact and economical.

Easy to install on the cold water line and protects the tank from imploding. Yes, that occurrence is rare but this is cheap insurance. You need an angle fitting with a female IP end to install it. I tested it by hooking on a drain hose and opening the valve under pressure. The hot water immediately shut off at the faucets. Many installers say you don't need this , but the parent uniform plumbing code and WH manual says you should have it. Five stars comes with length of service experienced.

Solid no plastic seems to work well. Bought a different brand first and it had a big plastic piece in it. This one is all lead free brass.
