I've been a piano player for 30 years. Here's what I love about this instrument:(1) The action is 99.99% flawless. Like other Casios that I've played, the keys are not quite as quiet as I would like them to be. But this isn't an issue if you're wearing headphones or playing at a "normal" volume.(2) The piano sampling is pretty superb. When playing with the lid raised, it's essentially indistinguishable from an acoustic instrument.(3) The keyboard cover is a nice touch.Summary: for under $1000, this is one hell of a good buy.A couple minor gripes: The user interface was placed on a panel just above the keyboard. Not the best location but I understand the logic behind it. Still, there's the rare moment where your fingers press a button which will suddenly change the voice of the instrument or cause the voicing to stop altogether. The "Standard Hall" and "Dutch Cathedral" samplings are a little overhyped. I was also hoping for a better set of string voices too. The pipe organ sample seems to have improved over the PX 720 however. This thing is heavy. Get help with assembly and try to place the instrument somewhere it can stay permanently (if buying for the home.)

Background: My wife and I both play piano. We both grew up with real uprights in our homes. We live in an apartment building. We have kids. We argued at LENGTH about a digital piano or a real piano, mostly because our last keyboard was a 2002 Yamaha (top of the line at the time). After testing many options, we finally decided to go with this one, even though this was NOT one of the models we had seen in person. we took a chance and we are glad we did.ASSEMBLY: I am a more than capable handyman, and by any standard, this was a challenging assembly. I did it myself and it took 30 minutes. There were several moments during the assembly that I could have messed up enough to damage the unit. DEGREE OF DIFFICULTLY 7/10. I definitely recommend several people for the assembly -QUALITY of HOUSING: once done, the unit is stable, but could be better: cosmetically not as nice a Yamaha, but more than acceptable and certainly not an eyesore: COSMETIC 7/10THE DIGITAL PIANO: here is why i am giving this a 5 star rating - this digital piano sounds AWESOME - the feedback of the keys and pedals is extremely satisfying and as close to a real piano experience as you will get for $1000.00. This is in part due to the technology Casio uses and in part due to the very robust (and heavy) speakers. Far more dynamic than any other speaker you will find at this price point. Additionally, the speakers point upwards behind the keyboard. The "grand piano lid" is a cool feature, but a bit gimmicky since this is an upright and belongs against a wall (grand pianos are mostly for a listeners benefit while uprights are more for the player). There are 2 headphone jacks, which is GREAT (you will likely need headphone jack adapters (twinpacks avail on amazon for 6 bucks) and the sound of this piano through headphones is even more amazing.EXTRAS: The built in sliding keyboard lid is a very welcome feature as keeping the keys dust free is a must on all digital pianos. There are a tons of extras, including splitting the keyboard (great for lessons) recording to usb storage, and customization of sound. They are a nice plus, but we use this as a standard piano 99% of the time.Bottom line: Might need help with assembly, but if you are on the fence, I say GO FOR IT - I think you will be glad you did.

Very nice instrument. delivery was on time and everything worked. Can't ask for more. If you're looking for something much lighter and easier to handle than an acoustic but with similar quality, look no further.

El sonido es bueno, la calidad también para el rango de precio. Algunas opciones son complicadas, por ejemplo para grabar a un archivo lo que se toca.El puerto USB no está muy a la mano

Just got in the Casio PX860 today. We decided to buy this piano because I had a few professional pianist friends recommend it for the budget we had. They also own Casio Privia’s and take them to use on gigs and said they really liked them. I myself am a musician so I’m pretty picky about the sound and quality of the instruments I buy. I will be updating this review over the next few months to let everyone know how it’s holding up. I was originally going to get the PX850 and then found out they had just came out with the upgraded 860 so bought it instead. I also read the review on azpianonews (http://azpianonews.blogspot.com/2015/01/Casio-PX860-REVIEW-digital-piano-privia-new-lowest-price-best-buy.html). Below I have listed the pro’s and con’s about the piano, however, overall the piano is great and is the best buy for the money for sure. I had played on a few other digital pianos and this by far sounds and feels the best. It even sounds and feels better than some in the $2000 range.Pros1. Quick delivery2. Great sound! Better sound than a lot of other acoustic pianos imo. The speakers are awesome, I feel like I’m in a concert hall when I’m in the other room listening to my daughter play.3. Key action is very real. I feel like I’m playing on a real piano.4. Keys feel nice5. Fairly easy to assemble (it is heavy so you may need two people to carry it and assemble it.)6. Compact and takes up very little room. We live in a small apartment so it’s perfect for us.7. Comes with two head phone jacks, so you won’t annoy the neighbors or sleeping kids.8. Has volume control—also great for neighbors and sleeping kids.9. Comes with other sounds i.e. organ, strings, harpsichord etc.10. USB portCons1. The sustain pedal doesn’t feel or sound like an acoustic piano. If I hold the sustain pedal down and just keep playing, the notes don’t mesh together as much like it would on an acoustic piano. The pedal is also very easy to press down with your foot, which is fine, except when my daughter goes to piano competitions and is playing on a real grand piano, I’m afraid the pedal strength and sound will throw her off. I did try unplugging and plugging the pedal cord back in a few times, and the cord is loose and wiggles. Doesn't seem to have that great of a connection. This is the only reason I gave it a 4 star rating instead of a 5.2. The base is cheap and wiggles if you bump it or play with vigor. This bothers my husband a lot because they could have used a little thicker wood and made it a little wider so it didn’t wiggle. But it’s not enough for us to spend another $600 for the Yamaha Aruis YDP-181 when the Casio PX860 sounds and feels so great. Of course time will tell on this one. We’ll see how it holds up.3. Can’t adjust the music stand, but that is just a minor detail.4. The acoustic bass sound is not the best, but if you are looking to buy this mainly for the piano, it shouldn’t be a problem.
