This is a heavy duty solid cast iron shallow well pump. To prime it, just fill it from the top with water. It's really easy to use. My only complaint is there was incomplete coverage of the paint so out of the box, there are areas that was already rusting.

I wanted a hand pump to use as a backup on the well for my farm, so I thought I would give this one a try. Meh. This pump is made of rough castings with very little finishing. It does work, but looks terribly cheap. Installation is the same as for any other similar pump. 3 stars.

I ordered this as a backup unit for our off-grid farm. It seems to be made very well, especially for the price. Good coating that I hope will prevent rust for a long time.

Some of the casting marks are not good. They could have done a better job cleaning it up before painting. It works though and comes with everything you need except the well and pipe. It works. You could grind it down and repaint. Mine looks like they just pulled it from the mold and sprayed it and threw it in a box to ship.

This is a great pump made or real cast iron and is made just like the one my grand dad used to have. I was able to use this in my shallow well and easily pump water here in Mississippi.

This pump is excellent! My old one had a handle that went straight up and down instead of being a lever like this one. This one is drastically easier to pump! It looks great! It comes with the leathers already installed. It does not require much force to operate. The water comes out in a nice flow, nearly continuous once I get going. It's the best hand pump I have ever used. Very easy to install.

✍️ The main highlight of this pump is that it is super durable. I don't imagine it breaking anytime soon. I have the yellow one so it gets dirty very quickly. It didn't come with a hose so finding a compatible one was a little bit of hassle. It's a good pump for a pond, lake, or well so I would recommend it for anyone looking for that use case.🔺Pros :-Durable Material🔻Cons :-Yellow Gets Dirty Fast-No Hose🏗️Design: 9/10💪Durability: 10/10🤖Functionality: 7/10💰Value: 8/10Star Rating :5⭐ - Product Exceeds Expectations4⭐ - Product Meets Expectations3⭐ - Product Meets Expectations with Minor Flaws2⭐ - Product Meets Expectations with Major Flaws1⭐ - Product Does Not Meet Expectations🙏🏻Thank you for reading my review❗

I rate items based on the manufacturer's claims, versus what I actually experience with that item, and my experience with this pump is nothing but positive ! In fact, this little beauty actually exceeded the manufacturer's claim and pumped water from a 32' deep, "dug well" on my property. That old well is at least 100 years old, and dug by hand, and this pump will be mounted on it from May, until October just in case we need water and the power is out. This pump cannot freeze, or it can be damaged, so year round use is not an option in Maine, unless it's in a pump shack kept above freezing, or in the house. The pump accepts a standard 1 1/4" pipe fitting on the intake, giving you lots of options. It's really easy to install, and use, and can be moved readily in minutes. We have a cistern in the basement so in the winter months we will mount this pump in the kitchen, drawing water from the cistern 10' below it. It can be used to pump from just about anywhere, and while it easily pumped 32' from a well for me, I imagine it could pump a pretty good distance from a pond, or lake that isn't straight down. It's made of decent cast iron, and finished with a yellow powder coat to protect from the elements, and it's surprisingly lightweight. The pump uses the old school cup leather, and valve design, so it's important to fill the top of the pump with water before pumping. Pumping when dry can reduce the life of the "leathers". The instruction manual should've stressed that. I knew this because I've used many pumps of this type, and learned the hard way. That being said, it has a 3" chamber and can be serviced, or even rebuilt if need be. The check valve seems tight enough, and the pump delivers a good flow of water for every pump, comparable to much more expensive units on the market. For the price this little pump really delivers !If you're looking to have a permanent hand pump year round for your property, or you're like me and need it to be somewhat portable, the 6699 is perfect for the job. It's built well, and meets, or exceeds the claims of the manufacturer in every way I tested. For the price you can't go wrong with this pump, whether you want it for a well at home, a cistern, or you just want to pump water from a lake, or barrel for that matter. It can be carried around easily so it's nice to keep handy as well. This was an easy 5 stars for it's function, and for the trip down memory lane it gave me. I truly believe every home should have on of these in case of emergency, and I highly recommend this one, for it's price, and function !!
