Had a 2007 Toyota Prius catalytic converter stolen while parked at airport parking. Replaced the converter and purchased this protection shield as a deterrent. This protection shield fit perfectly and was easy to install. The instructions were detailed and easy to understand. Came with all the pieces needed to install including self-tapping screws and rivets. You will need to provide a rivet gun, a power drill and a 2' piece of 2x4 wood for spacing. My son and I rented a local garage lift and were able to install the shield in less than 30 minutes. We rented the lift because you will need to provide upward pressure for the self-tapping screws. Affordable unit and well worth the cost for the peace of mind it provided.

All done! Easy to follow instructions, and now the catalytic converter in a 2007 Prius is protected from theft.**** 10/6/23 update **** even with this Cat Guard installed, last night thieves cut out the catalytic converter from our 2007 Prius. They cut behind the guard and in front of the guard and weaseled the cat outta there. It’s been a very sad morning for our 17yo daughter and us.

Instead of climbing under the car, I took it to my mechanic and had him throw my ‘05 Prius on lift. The predrilled holes were lined up perfectly. I had him use self tapping screws. I’m sure you can do a diy version and get under, but he was able to do it in 5 minutes. I had him change my oil at the same time. LolI don’t hear any type of rattling of air noise like some other reviewers said. Plus, there was at least two inches of space between the plate and the cat. We didn’t have to use the 2x4 block to create space. Maybe I got lucky and my year Prius had room.At least it will make thieves think twice about having to unscrew all the bolts, take down the plate, and start cutting. Thats too much noise and too much time under the car. I feel a lot better having this on considering all the thefts happening. Especially in shopping centers in broad daylight.

After I had my cat solen a few months ago, I immediately ordered this product. I could have installed it myself, but had the shop that replaced my cat do the work. They pre-charged me 2 hours to install. They said it took nearly 4 hours to install. The rivets that come with this are (in the shops opinion) sub-standard. Half of them broke during the installation. They used more professional-grade ones, and said it'll take an act of God to get this thing off now (which I was pleased to hear).I'm hopeful this will solve the theft issue until local/state/federal authorities actually make the punishment for stealing these more severe. It'd be nice if they caught the people responsible AND made them pay restitution to ME for my out of pocket expense. I didn't appreciate spending over half my stimulus check to get a new cat that never should have been stolen in the first place... but oh well.

My catalytic converter was stolen off my 2008 Toyota Prius twice in 5 months. I found this solution so I wanted to give it a try. I am pretty mechanically inclined so I installed the Cat security myself. The install was very easy. I followed the install instructions as written and they were very easy to follow and well written. The install took me less than an hour and I was happy with how it turned out. I have not noticed any sort of now noise or any decrease in gas mileage. I have had it on for over a month now and still have my catalytic converter. Yay! *knocks on wood* I guarantee some thief has looked under my car since I installed it and thought it wasn't worth the time or risk. This is a great deterrent and not a sure way to protect you cat. Like every other lock, someone could still steal it if they really tried. I would recommend this product to all Prius owners especially with how these thefts have been on the rise.

Tossed their undersized aluminum pop rivets they included and purchased the following from Amazon:1) POP Rivet 18-8 Stainless Steel - 8-4, 1/4" x 1/4" Gap (0.062-0.250) Qty-25 ($12)2) 1/4" x 5/8" OD Stainless EPDM Washers, (100 pc) Neoprene Backed, Choose Size & Qty, by Bolt Dropper.($8)3) Astro Pneumatic Tool 1423 1/4" Heavy Duty 13" Hand Riveter ($28)I installed the car's 3 bolts to hold the front edge and two self starting screws to hold the rear edge. I tossed out the undersized aluminum pop rivets they provided since they drilled 1/4" holes in the plate and you should use rivets the same size as the hole. All remaining holes got 1/4" SS rivets with the rubber lined washers to prevent any rattle (per PriusChat suggestion). You need to have the car high enough to get the over 13" long gun under it, as well as your drill and 1/4" bit. I did this with jack stands and a hydraulic jack. The pull required using the 13" pop rivet gun when using these 1/4" SS rivets is not too bad in your living room but under a car it was all I could do. I had to use my legs to help. I was thinking I should have paid for an air driven rivet gun but I got the job done. The undersized aluminum rivets they provided could be removed quickly. It would take an hour to drill out these 1/4" SS rivets so I am hoping I will keep my new converter. UPDATE; Today they stole my converter again while the "Cat Security" plate remained attached and undisturbed. They cut the exhaust pipe at the edge of the Cat plate and somehow removed the entire portion of the exhaust that was covered by the plate (see photo). I won't know if the exhaust bolts were removed or the pipe just broken off until the car is on a lift and the Cat plate is removed. Appears at least my thief knows how to completely bypass the Cat Security plate. Theft was done in broad daylight in a highschool teachers parking exposed to a busy street next to a mall. Zero damage to the security plate short of a small area where their saw contacted an edge. All rivets holding the plate onto the car are still there (I upgraded the included aluminum rivets to Stainless Steel rivets). Clearly this plate requires a re-design.
