So, I totally understand the frustration people are having with the packaging for this grill (there's no padding whatsoever between the barrel and the box). But if you, like me, get lucky enough to get a box that hasn't been abused much, this grill is an excellent product. It's a sturdy lil thing and, while I wouldn't suggest it for a commercial setting, it's spacious enough to feed an average family gathering. Coming from having used nothing but cheapo kettle-style grills, I'm seriously loving this as a longer-term upgrade. Temp management via the adjustable coal tray is awesome, and really does make for super easy cleanup -- I'm definitely going to make some customizations, but as a basic out-of-the-box product, there's a lot to love about this grill.I'm 100000% buying the smaller porta-grill/side-smoker attachment asap -- very excited to get waaaay too into smoked meats.Oh, P.S: I've seen a lot of people in these reviews mentioning difficulty with assembly -- As someone who put this thing together all by her big self, my insider tips that the booklet doesn't really explain very well are:1- Both of the bolts that hold each side of each leg assembly together need to go through the leg braces, AS WELL AS the two sections of leg tubing.2- The leg cross bars (top, horizontal bars on each of the leg assemblies) should be oriented in such a way that the bolt-holes on top of them are facing inward (toward one another).3- That wire shelf on the bottom needs to be placed before the two leg assemblies are bolted to one another - meaning you only put one leg assembly together, set the wire rack, THEN bolt the other side onto the opposite end of the leg braces.

Okay, 5 stars for a DIY person. 4 stars for needing a few mods off the shelf.I love it! It is a smoker, so meats tend to be infused with a smokey flavor with little to no effort. If that is your thing great. If not, maybe you should leave the lid up. :-)There are three modifications that I suggest are pretty much essential to getting the most out of your Wrangler grill. These are not original with me. I found some suggestions here in the reviews and also on some YouTube videos.1. Replace the wheels with heavy duty wheels. You will also need to get some plastic tubing to use for spacers for the wheels. The wheels that come with the grill are just plastic. I have to wheel my grill back and forth every time I use it, so I wanted sturdier wheels that don't wobble at all. (Check Amazon or Harbor Freight for inexpensive wheels).2. Get a roll of gasket tape for the grill to seal the sides - keeping heat and smoke inside the grill. I got Lavalock High Temp Nomex BBQ HT gasket smoker seal, self stick grey and it works fine.3. Brace the side shelf (the front shelf is already braced) so that the grill is more stable when rolling it back and forth. I used 1" x 3" red oak boards to more firmly attach the shelf to the grill. It works great now! Very stable. I ended up painting the boards black, so you can't even tell what they are. I would have preferred leaving them the natural oak color, but ended up spraying them by accident at first. Also, the following are necessities, not modifications. Get a grill cover if you intend to keep your grill outside in the elements. It will rust. And for prevention and treatment of rust, get a can of high temperature black Rustoleum. They have the next size larger on display at Lowes. I got the Wrangler because I wanted a smaller surface area. And it weighs about 15 pounds less. I tend to cook a bunch of stuff at one time, so I could have gotten the next size up. The Wrangler is perfect for normal cooking for 1-4 people. The actual cooking experience is great, but it is taking me time to get used to the grill. It's been about 10 years since I've grilled. I used to have a beautiful chiminea grill with a small, round grilling surface. But, boy, was that great for grilling! :-)As mentioned, this is a smoker so the food tends to have a smokey flavor. Plus it is easy to overcook the food. I'm not used to cooking with a cover down. But I practice, and hope that I won't have to eat too many of my mistakes. Normally I do lamb, steak, chicken, turkey, veggies, and occasionally fish. But not burgers and wienies.Bon appetit! An addendum. 3/17/17It keeps getting better and better!I broke my upgraded wheels, so I had to get better wheels with steel hubs. The original axle was too short, so I had to get a new axle. Instead of drilling holes in the steel rod for cotter pins, I got shaft collars to hold the wheels on. A better solution as it turns out.Anyway, here's a review of what I used.https://www.amazon.com/review/R16U11OLSFSEZO/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv

Wirklich gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Schnell aufgebaut, sehr stabil und wirklich sehr schnelles Grillen möglich. Optisch auch noch deutlich schöner, als so mancher billige Grill.

I ordered this grill on Thursday morning, used prime to get $4 next day shipping, and sure enough by 1pm on Friday the grill was on my porch. Great job Amazon! Now about the grill.. A friend of mine has the super pro, which is just a little more grill than I'll need most of the time, so I took a chance on this one. The size is perfect, slightly more room than I have on the kettle type grills I wear out every year. Assembly wasn't difficult at all; it went together with no problems in about an hour. After getting it together I brushed the entire exterior of the barrel and the entire inside including grates, with a healthy layer of bacon grease. Then I piled in some charcoal and a few cut pieces of hickory and lit some fire to it for its break in burn. A few times I noticed some smoke leaking out from around the chimney and even around the thermometer, but this doesn't really concern me since I know after a few more uses the smoke residue from the wood I burn will eventually seal the little gaps. I also noticed quite a bit of smoke leaking out of the gaps on the sides of the grill when it was closed, this might be remedied by slightly pushing in the sides of the top piece, but I'll cook on it a few more times to determine if its really even necessary. Compared to the kettles I've had in the past there's just no comparison. I can use less charcoal and wood and it'll burn longer and hotter. The warming rack on the kettles always ends up being a pain in the ass to keep secured and they end up falling down mid grill with the only weight of a few potato's and corn on the cob on it. The rack on this grill is sturdier and seems to be better secured. The iron grates are a huge plus as well since I like to cook some things in a big and heavy cast iron skillet. I have no worries about it being able to hold the weight, unlike on the kettles where I've always been worried about the grate giving in and everything falling into the coals. This is an awesome grill and should last awhile if you take care of it properly. I know I'll be using mine every chance I have until winter gets here and makes cooking outdoors not soo much fun, but right now I just have to decide whats for dinner tonight :)
