Complete Candle Making Process

  1. Preparation:Clean and dry your candle containers. Select the appropriate wick for your container size and use a wick sticker to secure the wick to the center of the container's bottom.
  2. Centering the Wick:Use the metal or wooden centering device to keep the wick centered. The metal centering device is ideal for small and medium candles, while the wooden centering device is suitable for larger candles.
  3. Melting the Soy Wax:Place the soy wax flakes into a double boiler to melt. If you don't have a double boiler, use a heat-resistant container and microwave it in intervals. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer, ensuring it stays between 120°F and 180°F. Avoid overheating to prevent degradation of the wax.
  4. Adding Fragrance Oil (Optional):Once the wax is fully melted and at the right temperature, you can add fragrance oil. Typically, 1 oz of fragrance oil per pound of wax is recommended. Stir well to ensure the oil is thoroughly incorporated.
  5. Pouring the Wax:Carefully pour the melted wax into the prepared candle containers, ensuring the wick stays centered. Pour slowly to avoid creating air bubbles.
  6. Cooling and Setting:Allow the candles to sit and cool naturally. This process usually takes several hours, depending on the size of the candle and the room temperature. Ensure the candles are fully set before moving to the next step.
  7. Trimming the Wick:Use scissors to trim the wick to an appropriate length, usually about 1/4 inch. This helps the candle burn cleanly and minimizes smoke.
  8. Enjoy Your Handmade Candle:Your handmade candle is now ready to use. Light it and enjoy the warm glow and pleasant fragrance!

My kids had been asking to make candles, and we had a lot of empty candle jars. We started picking up some different types of wax to experiment with, including this soy wax.I only received .5 pounds of this wax, which looks like is no longer available. The wax pieces were much smaller than pictured in the photos online, which show large flakes. The melted well, though, and .5 pounds is enough to make a small, 8 oz candle. We used the double boiler method to melt the wax, and it worked well and easily. We melted it and brought the temperature to between 180 and 185 degrees before adding in some fragrance scent I had picked up separately. We then cooled the scented wax to 130 degrees before pouring it into the jar. The wax set up well but was not quite as smooth as I had hoped. The kids are pleased with the project and have suggested we never purchase candles again, making them instead.

These soy wax flakes are perfect for candle making! The wax is 100% natural, organic, and free from any harmful additives, which gives me peace of mind when making candles for my home and gifts. It melts evenly and smoothly, producing a clean burn with minimal soot. The texture of the flakes makes them easy to measure and work with, and they hold fragrance oils really well, giving my candles a long-lasting and pleasant scent. I also love that this wax is sourced from farms, making it an eco-friendly choice. For a 0.5lb bag, you get a great amount for small-batch candle making. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced candle maker, this soy wax is an excellent choice. Highly recommend it!

Posted on January 29, 2025: I bought the 2-pound bag of soy wax flakes. I have not yet used them to make anything. However, I took a star off my review because of the bag. It is nice that it is resealable, but a bag like this should really have a gusset in the bottom so it stands on its own without falling over. If you scoop out a cup and let go of the bag, it will fall over and spill. So, it is one star off for the packaging. I will update this review when I make my wax melts some time over the next few weeks.UPDATE: I forgot to mention this in the original review. The recipes I have say to use cups of the wax flakes. I could not find anywhere that gives a conversion from cups to weight. Therefore, I went ahead and measured several cups myself and weighed them. My average weight per cup was 107g, with 106g being the lightest and 108g being the heaviest. To me, this is pretty good proof that 1 cup = 107g.

This melts quickly - especially compared to the blocks of wax I'm used to using, so that made the whole process a lot easier. This wax holds the fragrance and color I added really well. I'm pretty happy with this. How I rate items:⭐ 1 Star – UnacceptableThe product is completely unusable, defective, misleading, or broke almost immediately. Not worth anyone’s time or money.⭐⭐ 2 Stars – Major IssuesIt functions somewhat, but has serious flaws, poor quality, or doesn’t do what it promises. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re desperate.⭐⭐⭐ 3 Stars – Just OkayIt works, but it’s mediocre. Might be worth it for the price or a specific need, but it didn’t impress. Some noticeable issues.⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 Stars – Solid ProductWorks well and meets expectations. A few minor flaws, but overall a good product. Would recommend to most people.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars – ExcellentExactly what it claims to be (or better). High quality, reliable, and performs as promised. Would happily buy or use again.
