I started using this paper today when I finally had time to do some calligraphy and painting. The moment the brush touched the paper, it was smooth and the brush strokes were clear and not smudged. The paper is definitely suitable for practicing writing and painting. I painted some flowers and leaves and the picture looks wonderful. I would buy this again. I have bought unripe xuan paper, and because of the nature of the paper, the ink tends to spread, and it is not easy for practicing as a beginner. Same for painting purposes. I tried the ripe xuan paper, and it is pretty water-resistant, and it does not spread like the unripe xuan paper. I need to get the half ripe to try. However, after trying different types of paper, I still like this the most.
