The hooks do not extend sufficiently out from the base plate. It is barely possible to hang an empty stocking on them and keep the holder and empty stocking from toppling off the mantle.

I love the simplicity of these stocking holders, just wish they were waited a little bit more.

They are weighted and have a rubber bottom. They seem to be quite secure. Will know in about a month when they have to hold stockings with things in them. BUT, they seem to be able to do so. Hard to decide on a color... but, I do not think you can go wrong..
