Can't figure out why the area to put the screw into is raised 1/4 inch, which causes it not to lie flat. Very disappointed - this should be a 1, 2, 3 easy install, but because of the raised areas it is not. May end up returning it - might be able to get around it, but really shouldn't have to. Don't want to try to carve out a square hole so this item will lie flat. Dumb design

This door knocker is super heavy duty and works well. I used a grinder to grind down the two raised areas on the back so it would lay flat against door then I drilled two holes in the plate and used short wood screws to attach to door instead of drilling a hole clear through my door and having the nuts sticking out on the inside.

This is for the beveled option. The answered question from the manufacturer states the boring distance is 3.5". HOWEVER, it is not 3.5 inches. It is closer to 5". Additionally, it is not full bore, they have two-sided screws included, one side with wood threads that you screw into the door (not all the way through), and the other with machine threads that screw into the knocker. So also not what is in the questions/answers and description.

LARGE, QUALITY piece of jewelry for your front door. Unfortunately, I had to return this piece as my home has a standard-sized front door and this brass door knocker is for the larger, more substantial front door of my dream home, not my average, builders grade neighborhood home front door. haha

Good price, GREAT QUALITY BUT A LIITLE LACKING on functionality.What I am saying is, I wish they'd have welded the knocker to the plate. Since they didn't, and they didn't provide a back plate, you will probably need to ferret out your own hardware to make this work as intended. Since this is clearly intended to be both functional and decorative I feel they should have a better solution for bolting the actual knocker onto your door.
