I was hooked at first sip. I'm not sure if it's an intended use but it wakes me up as well as a cup of coffee would!

It's a unique "soda pop" even though it is technically a fermented beverage. The flavour consists of an interestingly semi-sweet (if not moreso), with a subtle but noticeable dark, toasted black bread flavour; the smell reflects similarly to its taste. The carbonation barely exists, but it can be helped if it is at refrigeration level. To err on the side of caution: it may be a bit watered down. It becomes less flavourful with the addition of ice, but it's intended to be a more of a light, cold summer drink, so it's not exactly a big deal. And with most mass produced soft drinks: this has added CO2. Since CO2 is a listed ingredient on this product, it's usually added, since its ingredients list clearly shows they use a Kvas and/or a rye bread concentrate in order to make the beverage widely sold across the planet. And last I checked: fermented beverages that are about less than 2% alcohol by volume are considered to be "non-alcoholic" in Slavic standards. (0.5% - 1% ABV according to Wikipaedia.)I decided to try this first as per my curiosity in seeing what it is like to consume kvas for the first time. I may try Ochakovskiy to compare. However, this tastes *nothing* like "root beer", despite what other reviewers say; many experiences with root beer (Dad's, Barq's, A&W, MUG, Virgil's, Not Your Father's Root Beer) and/or sarsaparilla disproves their claims.

I wouldn't normally write a negative review but since this seller doesn't accept returns they will get to hear about my issue this way instead. I ordered a bottle of Kvass to compare with the homemade Kvass a friend and I have been making. Not only did it taste and look nothing like what I expected compared to the homemade version it just seemed off somehow. After three of us agreed it tasted awful I poured the rest of the bottle in the sink. I was more than a little surprised when a large piece of stainless steel came out of the bottle. It is about 6 inches long and appears to be a piece of the machinery used to fill the bottles. Needless to say, I will stick to making my own from now on!

Fabulous drink! Very tasty!! Wish I could buy it locally! The only carbonated drink I can drink. Not too sweet - tastes like a minimally sweetened root beer/dark chocolate drink.

Ukrainian probiotic drink, Ukrainian "root beer", 1% alcohol. Tastes as dark chocolate soda. Many health benefits.
