The fit didn't feel tight which was a bit concerning. I can push one side of the chain more than the other. But I've been driving with it for 3 months. The car feels more powerful.

Had to open the timing chain cover because the gasket was leaking coolant. Since the Ranger had 165k miles on it I ordered this timing chain and gears since it was just one more step to replace and it's affordable, also I replaced the water pump for the same reason. Glad I did because the chain was so loose you could practically squeeze the chain to nearly touch together. After installing the difference is night and day as the chain just barely moves out of line and with any luck it will go another 165k miles.

Installed this on 2003 ford Taurus when I was doing the timing cover gasket..everything fit great and I didn't notice any unusual slack on the chain..In fact, it was perfect. You really don't want banjo string tight on your chain, there was about 3/16" deflection (if you push the chain in the middle, and put a straight edge from sprocket to sprocket, and measure the distance from the chain trough to the straight edge) which is perfect for a newly installed chain. this keeps the chain from putting pressure on the shafts and wearing the seals prematurely without affecting the sync of the upper and lower section of the engine. IMHO. But everything is still fine after 20k miles.
