When applied to the top of deck joists, deck Flash barrier, creates a waterproof membrane that prevents wood rot and decay caused by the accumulation of water under the decking boards. Deck Flash Barrier's unique asphalt mastic adhesive self-seals around screws and nails, blocking a primary pathway for water infiltration into deck joists. By blocking moisture and preventing wood rot, deck Flash barrier, maximizes the life of your new deck. 3" X 75' When applied to the top of deck joists creates a waterproof membrane that prevents wood rot & decay caused by the accumulation of water under the decking boards super grip adhesive can now be installed at temperatures down to 25 degrees Fahrenheit self seals around screws & nails blocking a primary pathway for water infiltration into deck joists thus preventing wood rot creates a physical barrier that prevents corrosion of the metal surface caused by contact with ACQ ca-b, & adze treated lumber can be used to protect metal flashing, joist hangars, the deck plates, sill plates & anywhere treated lumber is used. Corrosion barrier When deck Flash barrier is placed between ACQ, ca-b, or adze treated lumber and metal surfaces, such as galvanized metal and aluminum, it creates a physical barrier that prevents the corrosion of the metal surface caused by contact with chemicals in treated lumber. It can be used to protect metal flashings and hangars, at deck plates and sill plates, and anywhere treated lumber is used.

This tape is necessary when building decks to prevent water from collecting on top of joists and causing rot. Very thick, cushiony and sticky as needed. Easy to use. Effective Best tape found.Even in our dry climate, deck joists without joist tape on top developed rot which compromised structural integrity over the years. No outdoor deck should be built without it!

Was not sure that joist tape was worth the cost and effort, but now that I've used it I think it was a good choice. It sticks well on new wood. We reused some older joists and it does not stick well on older wood with debris on it. I used a few staples to hold in place. The tape is sturdy and tough but easy to cut with a razor knife. Paper backing comes off easily. I read about it buckling but we had no issues with that.

Adheres well, I'm confident it will do what its supposed to. For the record, I've used this, Deckwise and Vycor.Vycor NY far adheres the best, but its gray and not black, so I used where wouldn't be seen like the ledger.Deckwise and this stuff however.......exact same product, probably same manufacturer....but much cheaper. Don't be afraid, pull the trigger. I wish I used this stuff prior to the 6 rolls of other stuff that I bought! Would have saved around $100.I did NOT use a tape roller, but I did run a scrap block of 2x4 over it after applied to make stick flatter, smoother and better.Couple of spot where it puckers on sides of joists, but nothing in top.

Used Cofair and Grace Vycor tapes on my front and back decks (Timbertech composite on pressure treated joists). Cofair sticks to green pressure treated lumber better than Vycor; however, Vycor is stickier overall sticking to dry lumber, skin, gloves, shoes, and itself much more aggressively (i.e., Cofair is easier to install under typical conditions). Cofair is all black, which looks better than the Vycor (which has white lettering on it) when looking between your deck boards. Backing on Cofair comes off cleanly, Vycor backing tends to get stuck and tear. Cofair textured surface is also more slip resistant than the Vycor when walking on joists while laying the deck. The backing of the Vycor is gummier than the Cofair, in 25 years we will see which of the two self healed around screw penetrations better.

Did a re-deck job on my house and pulled the old boards off and saw the deck joists were stable but needed a little protection. I actually cut this roll in half and did my entire 12x14 deck with about 1' leftover. Won't need to buy again. I originally thought to myself the joists would need something since I'm replacing the deck boards the joists must be worse for wear and did an amazon search for joist protection and this showed up. Glad it did, saved money cutting it in half and it rained after putting just the protector on with no deck boards and the water beaded right up on it. It's more like a tar tape than just tape, so have some mineral spirits around to clean your hands.

Great product! Not only protects the edge of the joists, but also prevents squeakiness. Unfortunately, the tape was applied on a wet surface during drizzle which obviously cause adhesion problems. However, even in those conditions there was a decent amount of stickiness. Once the weather breaks I will have to staple the tape to the joists. But, no big deal!

I installed this Saturday morning in Wash DC. Temperature was about 50F. The stuff is great. I bought a seam roller like someone recommended and I never used it. A pair of gloves were enough to put pressure on the tape and wrap around the joist. Tape is wide enough to cover a double joist. Stuff is very durable. I was sliding a 2 x 10 on the taped joist as I installed the deck board, no damage at all. No problems like the others. I'd recommend you cut the piece to length and then pull backing off rather than roll and pull off backing at the same time. I have an 8 x 30 deck. Just cut 8' pieces and then run the 30' piece. Two rolls of tape installed with two people in about 30 minutes.

It's OK WRT installing. Honestly, it does not stick very well out of the box. And you might think that's a deal breaker. But, with just a little heat from a heat gun, it sticks great. My process is to cut it to length, peal the backing as I affix it to the top of the joist and then go back with the heat gun to warm it and push it down to the top and over the sides of the joist. It would be nicer to not have to use the heat gun, but it's not that bad of a process either. It seems like it will perform well. It's rather tough. IOW, it's not something that's going to fall apart immediately. Whether it actually performs well is a something I'll know in 10 to 20 years. I'll get back to you on that :)FYI, I tried both this and the DeckWise competitor. They seem EXACTLY the same. From the packaging I'd say they come from the same factory. And, this product (cofair) is WAY cheaper.
