Great size, lightweight, accurate, easy to maintain and operate, the compass functions properly and is very easily readable and has great durability. The only downside is that it does not have an adjustable declination built in but you can still adjust declination using the "add / subtract" technique.

This is a good basic compass for teaching kids. That is exactly what I got this for. To teach my young daughter how to read maps and navigate.It is very simple. No bells and whistles.For the price its fine.

This review is for the CoguZed Orienteering Hiking Compass. This simple baseplate compass is reasonably simple to use. Still, it has some issues that would make it more challenging to use correctly, especially if you're orienteering where speed is of the essence. Right off the bat, I found that the needle must be within 2° of level on both the X and Y axis for it to move freely. That's somewhat problematic when you're out in the wilderness with no level place to set a map. If you have a keen eye, you can tell if the needle is level with the baseplate. Also, the orientation arrow could be better defined. The scale indications can be hard to see depending on the daylight conditions.It is helpful for hiking, backpacking, and hunting or as a teaching instrument for beginners to learn what a compass is and how to use it. However, if you want to get serious about the sport of orienteering, this is not the compass you want to have. I plan to use it to teach my grandchildren how to use a compass, especially if electronic devices are unavailable or no longer operate. It would have been nice to have a user guide with some simple instructions included.Conclusion: This compass has not met my expectations, so it is rated three stars by my grading system. Three stars mean it's "just okay." But if you want to join the sport of orienteering, you'll most likely not win any competition using this. For general leisure or amateur compass use, it's okay, but for professional or competitive use, it's not. I hope this review helps. Thanks for reading!

This worked out of the box and is a great little compass. This is perfect as as lightweight addition to my outdoor gear.
