I like the all metal build of this cold shoe adapter from Mechrig, but the 1/4" screw spins freely, which makes it hard to screw on devices unless you're using the included allen wrench to tighten it from underneath the adapter. If the intent is to only use the allen wrench to screw things on, this seems like a really poor design if you want to be able to quickly swap devices onto the adapter. If you're just going to screw this onto one device only, I guess this works, but the spinning screw really reduces this adapter's versatility.

Cold shoe is as described. Comes with an Allen key and adapter which the purchaser should bag and label for safekeeping and future use. Aluminum, not plastic.

The materials used for this 1/4 20 mount are very good quality, and the mount itself is certainly useful. Being able to turn a hot shoe, or a cold shoe into something to mount an accessory like a light, or microphone is very handy. The only complaint I have, and it's kind of bordering on a major one, is that you require the Allen wrench, or a screwdriver to be able to securely fasten the 1/4 20 Mount, to whatever accessory it is that you're choosing to mount it to. The 1/4 20 screw spins freely, and there's no way of holding it still without the Allen wrench, or a flathead screwdriver. There should have been perhaps a button that you can press to stop it from spinning, so if you're caught in a situation where you don't have either the Allen wrench or the screwdriver, you'd still be able to confidently attach whatever your accessory is. Other than that, it's well made, and pretty solid.

This adapter is great for DIY mounts, as it can attach to tripods, mics, or LED lights to DSLR, etc... Making it versatile. This aluminum cold shoe adapter has a 1/4" screw (top) with an additional 3/8 - 14" screw adapter (screw hole, bottom).. It's lightweight, with the embedded silicone pad for durable protection.

I like to keep these sorta random different mounts in my gear bag. Never know when you may need one. I like that this one has a locking knob for both the cold shoe and the upper threads also. Will come in handy for a few different rigging options I want to try out with my camera.
