Simply sre the thestat tigtly against the pipe with eecical tape, secure the heating cable stright along thepipe, plug the cable into the nearest gruded elecical reptacle, and let the heating cable work its gic.

this unit does not work as designed, There is NO sense of security with this device, I was diligent in installing measures to prevent my pipe from freezing, but it was futile. I took a manual temp reading (17 deg) and this device never comes on, multiple tests with a Freon shot on the sensor achieve nothing!!n the heat coils never differ from the frozen pipe ( and yes it is powered up) its a rip off, save your money!!

I used this to keep a fig tree from freezing over winter. It worked very well. The built in thermostat worked perfectly and kept the branches warm on cold days.
