I don't know what it is about this product but ever since I took this out of the box I have been hesitant to use it in the field. I've used half a dozen water filtration systems over the years and I've never felt a sense of unease about using them. My gut just says don't do it, so I am not going to.Could be perfectly safe and effective

I use the Ergotrail Collapsible Water Bottle in the cockpit of my airplane. Being a tandem two seater, there isn't much room to spare and because the bottle collapses as it empties it can conform in shape and size to fit into tight spaces so it fits that niche very nicely. A couple of other non-negotiable features are that it's leak proof and filtered. During refueling stops, I fill it with tap water in the men's room and I'm on my way. I also carry it on long trips in the car for the same reason but space is not as important.Other desirable features are it's light weight and nonbreakable. Cleaning is easy, a bottle brush and leave it upside down in the dish washer to dry. The filter is removable and can be cleaned. There are no claims that it can filter microscopic bacteria like Giardia so I would not trust it for that but for most municipal tap water it should be fine. It comes with a couple of baking soda capsules to wash off the plastic taste before first use, after that the taste is fine but if not used for a while the process has to be repeated and some people may find this objectionable.

This Ergotrail soft flask has become my new favorite piece of hiking gear. I needed something lightweight and packable for long treks, and this fits the bill perfectly. The built-in filter is a fantastic feature. No more worrying about water sources – I can fill up from streams and know I'm getting clean water. It's incredibly convenient. The flask itself is made of a soft, flexible material that collapses down to almost nothing when it's empty, which saves a ton of space in my pack. It's also leak-proof, which is essential when it's bouncing around in my backpack. The 17oz size is perfect for a few hours of activity, and the bite valve is easy to use on the go. Overall, I'm really impressed with this flask. It's a must-have for any outdoor adventurer.

I can’t give this five stars because it does not say anywhere what micron and percent it filters. Without that guarantee, I cannot recommend this product for anything other than filtering already safe to drink water to improve the taste. It’s ok otherwise. Mostly well made, except that the bite valve comes off way too easy, so potential for leaking is high.

This filter bottle reminds me a lot of the Katadyn BeFree water bottle. It has a smaller size at about 15 ounces in capacity and the valve mouthpiece is a bite valve instead of a squeeze through, but the overall filter media/functionality is the same. You put the dirty water in the water bottle, and then you squeeze the bottle while opening the bite valve in the mouthpiece. This takes a bit of practice. You either bite down and squeeze the water (through the filter and) directly into your mouth, or you can press the bite valve open with your fingers so that you can squeeze the filtered water into a cook pot or somewhere else. This is the reason I took off one star. I like the design of this filter water bottle, and the filter appears to work well. However, I don't like that if you want to put filtered water someplace other than your mouth that you need to use your fingers. And how clean will they be in the wilderness if you are filtering dirty water. Anyway, it is not a huge deal, just something to consider. If you only are using this water bottle to drink directly, then it is no issue. But usually when I am filtering water, I also need it to cook with while backpacking in the wilderness, and clean hands can be hard to come by.This is a neat little filter that would be an asset to anyone's hiking and backpacking gear. It is lightweight and works well.

Comes with 2 x cleaning tablets that absorbs the new plastic smell that sometimes lingers in new these collapsible water pouches. I drank/tasted the water before and after cleaning and those tablets do rid the plastic/chemical smell. Even with the filter on, you are able to effortlessly suck water through. Have no idea how well the filter actually purifies, but it's certainly better than no filter.

The nice thing about this pressure method water filter is the compact and light weight size. This will make an easy backup system for water needs. I'm just not sure what level of contaminant it will handle as i read through the provided documentation. It uses a bite valve for drinking, but with a little pressure you cam pop the bite valve of to filter water into a different container for cooking. This s a good value compared to water filtration systems at the big box outdoor store. GOOD FIND.

Nice design. Easily switch out filters when one is used up.
