Got these half off, along with a pair of Fairtex at full price. The Fairtex pads are obviously cooler, prettier, etc., but being the cheapskate I am, I really never thought I'd keep them at twice the price of these. But for 50-60 bucks less, I still couldn't pick these. They really don't seem in the same league, so while I think these are worth about half what you pay for them, I don't mind paying double for easily twice the quality. At full price, you'd have to be high to pick these. Again, nothing wrong with them. They're very nice. But unless they're Made in U.S.A (they aren't), what am I paying for? What I will say is a benefit, for some, is that they are much softer than the Fairtex pads. So for kids/beginners, are they better? Maybe, but still. I can't believe there isn't something of similar softness for far less money. Leather? I mean, the face is leather. But I can't believe anything else is. Maybe the handle? So, assuming all things being equal, as far as price:quality (if you can get them half off, used like new), I'd still take the "cooler" option, which when you give up the hobby in 6 months will be worth twice as much on craigslist/etc.

Both of my boys have achieved the rank of Black Belt in Kung-Fu. They love practicing with each other, but one of my boys is 22 and the other is 15. I prefer them to not hit or kick each other because I'm not sure the "he's my brother and he can take it" thing will come out when they are just practicing for fun. Now that I have these, I have begun letting them hit and kick at each other. The pads are holding up very nicely to the hours of abuse my boys have put them through. They were a little stiff when they first arrived which made them a little difficult for my younger son to hold, but they have worn in nicely and now he has no problems. The padding is nice and thick, and so far no one has been injured even when I'm sure the whole brothers thing rears it's head. I'm not sure what the longevity of this product will be, but I'm very pleased with them for now.

These things will take a beating. They are sturdy, well stitched, and made of higher quality material. Of all the boxing equipment I have, these probably take more abuse than most of my equipment because my husband & his buddy like to play with these. They get pretty rough and they are holding up like they are brand new. The only issue I have is the price, I do feel that they could be priced a bit lower but they are built to last. They get a 5 star review.

I used to teach Indonesian pencak silat (pen-chak see-lut) a couple of decades ago as a certified instructor before I had my sons, and I used to have a nice collection of training equipment too including a solid punching bag.Fast forward and I now live in a large, nicely appointed apartment but without anywhere to hang a bag for kicking and conditioning. A few seasons ago I started informally taking my boys to the park and using focus mitts to teach them how to punch properly. These Combat Sports Thai pads are a great supplement to their casual practice as I teach them how to kick.I'm a relatively small female at 5'2". My boys are age 9 and 13. I find these pads comfortable to use, both holding and taking impact. Granted my kids aren't as strong as well-seasoned practitioners, I would not have hesitated to use these with my adult male students way back when I was teaching regular classes. The pads are very strong and firm and the construction is solid and well designed to benefit both kicker and holder without injury and with proper use. I had a few roundhouse strikes on them myself with my husband holding them and they feel solid under my bony shins and the tops of my feet. I like how they have a black branded band on the front too as it helps for focus training for accuracy. The smaller overall size of the pads also helps facilitate this. The top bracing handles appear to be made of leather and attached well with strong rivets which will withstand use and wear well over time. The main body also seems to be constructed from leather. The two lower arm straps with velcro and the forearm padding underneath appear to be vinyl, as well as the binding underneath the lacing cord. I'm satisfied that the best materials are used for where there will be the most impact and wear.I'm very pleased to add these pads to my small collection of training equipment and being able to use them to relive my glory days and pass on some knowledge to my kids!

Straight up - I've never used Thai pads and probably wouldn't know what to do with them if I did. I do know that Son #1 and his workout buddies (he hates when I call them that) have gotten a ton of use out of these. They've taken a beating and have held up very well. He says these are a little pricier than a lot of what's out there, but these have also held up better than others he's used. From my standpoint, just by looking at them, I would think the weak points would be around the stitching and where the straps join the pads. That said, the stitching has held despite numerous hits and the straps have held tight as well. Coming from the young men making use of these pads, they'd recommend them.

Initially these seemed very nice, although they were advertised as leather Thai pads and the only leather is the point of contact. The rest is made of relatively thin vinyl. After using these twice weekly for MMA training, the stitching around the straps started coming apart after only 5 weeks of use. These seem to be a cheap imitation of Fairtex pads. Best to stick with the real thing.
