So far, I have not had any of the issues other users have had with the bearing nut. I will say this is not a high quality bit. Meaning there are high end manufacturers of bits that make bits that will run much higher than this one. For the pattern cuts I was making I made sure I took it slow. I lowered the speed of the router, and took it easy.If you are trying to decide if you want to invest in compression bits, this may be a good way to test their functionality. This is a low priced bit that works well. I do find value in this bit.

The bit worked quite well but lost the bearings and retainer screw on the first use. It was a miracle I found them (so small ). I think it would be wise to use a good loc-tight on this screw. Users beware of setting the cut depth low enough that this retainer screw is below your template.

Cuts very cleanly. I did notice a slight bit of play in the bearing, but upon use, it didn't seem to affect the bit's ability to follow a pattern. The spiral nature of the bit seems to make it a bit less aggressive which (in my opinion) makes it a bit easier control.

Poor quality. Worked like a beaver for 3 seconds until the top shot off. Checked prior to usage, was no Allen key to tighten. Better options on Amazon than this.

I've used this on one project with a router table and 1/4" router. This bit gave clean cuts on both sides of the workpiece, cleaner than a straight-cut bit. The bearing tracked the template nicely. I haven't used it enough yet to see the difference between a compression bit and upcut or downcut spiral bits, it will be fun to try them all.

When you can't use a table router, naturally it's a handheld and a 1/4" is a good size for that. I have a cordless 1/4" router, and typically what I'd use it for is trimming the edge of boards that I couldn't take to the router table and this bit is great for that. It's nice and sharp and being a compression bit, makes clean cuts on both sides of the board, as long as you center it. It's got a 1 1/4" cutting length, and that's good for 3/4" boards which I often use for bookshelves. It's made from tungsten which is good for a bit. It also has a blue coating which they say helps with corrosion resistance, lubrication and extends bit life. It does make nice, clean cuts, and this is a really good price for a bit with all these characteristics. I'm pleased with its performance, and even the label on the little plastic case indicates what it is for easy identification which many brands do not. Totally pleased with this one.
