I was mortified to discover a mouse in my dining room. Where did it come from? How did it get in? Why my house? A few days later, I opened the pantry to feed the dog, & I spotted another mouse, this one was eating dog food.I selected these containers for a couple of reasons. Number one, I needed food safe containers. Sure, I could have used a Home Depot bucket, but I don't want my dog slowly exposed to questionable chemicals. Number two, the lids spin on and off (I'd like to see a mouse open these lids). Third, I read the reviews about the lids being difficult to assemble (the lid is made in two parts), but I didn't find it all that challenging, it's not rocket since, it's a lid with a tight seal, like the reverse of removing a pickle jar lid...you just gotta get in there with some elbow grease.Cons: the price is pretty steep, but I use 2 for my dog and 1 for my cat. Since they are food safe, I feel like these buckets will outlive both pets.

Airtight seal is no joke, but you have to use some force to get the lid on. We followed a method we found on YouTube. Place the ring on the bucket, put a 2x4 across the edges - DO NOT screw the lid on before the ring is in place. If you do the airtight seal will lock it in place and you won't be able to unscrew it. "Stand" on the 2x4 on your knees and your weight will make the ring snap in place. Turn the bucket a quarter turn and do it again. Turn the bucket upside down and check the seal under the ring to be sure that it is snapped in place around the entire rim. If you need to take the ring off, we did so by loosening the edge of the ring (gently) with a wonder bar all the way around, and were then able to just lift it off.
