I received a hex-shaped foam rubber block and a human upper body sized sheet of plastic with some instructions for performing CPR.The foam block is supposed to be heart-shaped but it is hex shaped. The plastic sheet has partial instructions for performing CPR. They are not correct. For example it says to perform compressions 2 fingers below the nipple line. It says to press 2 inches using two hands, or 1 hand, or 1 1/2 inches using two fingers. All of that is wrong.I am a Red Cross CPR instructor. I tried using the foam block to practice CPR compressions. It is about the right firmness to simulate a human chest but if I pressed on it even slightly off dead center, the block tipped over. You cannot practice CPR like that. Please take a CPR class instead. Using this device will not help you to learn or practice CPR.

I got this thinking it might be a good way to demonstrate basic hands only CPR and practice between certifications. Unfortunately this did not work for those purposes. The hexagon shaped foam block is denser/harder to compress than either a traditional training mannequin or an actual human. It provides no tactile sensation of recoil, which is something important to feel/understand as it helps you ensure you don't go too fast. Finally, the little block may be compact but it's not very stable and is prone to tipping over. The information on the fold out sheet is VERY basic and not sufficient to consider yourself 'trained' in CPR.If you want an affordable at home training option, the American Heart Association has a 'Adult & Child CPR Anytime Training Kit ' for $45 that also covers AED use. For free or low cost in person training contact your local health department for resources.
