I did not think you could improve on a seam ripper, but I have only ha a couple of weeks and have already saved hours of work. It been years since i had a sharp enough seam ripper to so some tricks like running the seam ripper down the seam and cutting the threads rather than cutting each individual thread one by one so as to not cut the fabric. I have accidentally cut myself opening the package because it doesn't come with the safety cap on, but not worse than a paper cut. Actually the ease of cutting means I poke myself less from the dull or burs on the seam rippers I can buy at the fabric store, so even though its basically a scalpel its safer and easier to use....who knew?I have some scalpel blade seconds on order that might fit it which would be much cheaper than the branded replacement blades. I will update when they arrive and I change out a blade.

Does what it’s supposed to do. This is an excellent way to rip seams. So why not 5 stars? The 2nd time I used it, it fell off the table & the screw popped out. I found the screw but it will no longer stay in. I would not be surprised if the blade bent or broke but why would the thumb screw break? This is not necessarily a product flaw - it was not meant to be dropped, but when I was shopping I saw lots of other options that were just 3-4 disposable scalpels. I figured this version would be more durable & maybe more comfortable to hold but it’s not. It’s not a bad product. Unlike the disposable scalpels it comes with a cap which is nice. It comes with extra blades. So it’s a great tool, surgeons agree in fact... just be aware of what you are getting. It’s a 12 blade scalpel. don’t let it fall off the table. I wish they made a handle like a xacto knife that would hold a 12 blade (I checked it doesn’t fit).

This is an awesome seam ripper. We are reupholstering an old pontoon boat and the old stitching had bonded to the old vinyl very well over many years. This seam ripper makes short work of neatly separating the hardened seams and helps to preserve the old shapes for new patterns. Naturally, you have to make sure that your hands are behind the tool and that you are careful not to cut through the material. Slow and careful pulling passes toward you with this tool provides better results than attempting to remove a seam with the common push style of seam ripper. It comes with spare blades and I will definitely buy again.

Sharp and easy to use. I ordered it for ripping seams in worn denim jeans so I could use the jeans in other projects. Performed very well on those heavy threads and made the job much easier. True the plastic cover for the blade doesn't fit well, but I keep this and my rotary cutters put away safely anyway because my great grand children are curious little stinkers if they get loose in the sewing area.

I saw a similar seam ripper years ago in a sewing magazine and wanted one. This is essentially a super sharp scalpel style ripper that can cut through even thick embroidery easily. It definitely needs to be locked away if there are children in the home. I have a locking toolbox that can hold sewing scissors and other sharps like this ripper that I don't want misused for non-sewing purposes or loose where a visiting child could hurt themselves.I highly recommend this as a gift for anyone who sews or does machine embroidery. It really helps to prevent hand fatigue that can occur with those tiny little traditional seam rippers that often come with beginner sewing kits or in a sewing machine accessory kit. This super sharp seam ripper is worth every penny!

Love it!!! Perfect!!! Well made. Nice comfortable sized handle. This little item is very very sharp, and does the job perfectly. I had a good seam ripper that grew legs and left home, so I purchased one of these and another kind here on Amazon. (after seeing how low the quality of the regular looking ones in the fabric stores are) I am so glad I bought this. I just now ordered another one to put away. When you find something great, you want a spare.

It's exactly what it looks like - essentially a tiny little box cutter/razor. The darn thing is SHARP and you can cut a hole in your fabric (or slice a finger pretty badly!) in no time flat if you're not super careful. But it's effective. Can slide it between your fabrics and cut a whole seam in a fraction of the time a traditional seam ripper will. Also like that it actually CUTS the thread, versus essentially RIPPING it, so far less stress/stretching on your fabric. Found it excellent to use for initiating the fraying on rag quilts (I use heavy fabrics like corduroy and denim for backing for added warmth and durability, and scissors have never been great at cutting into those); this is much sharper and more precise for that purpose. Not ideal for detail work, however; the tip isn't an overly fine point and will make a mess of it if you're trying to 'dig' out an individual stitch. Short version is that it WON'T replace a traditional seam ripper, but it's a GREAT addition. Worth every penny.

I saw this rated highly in Quilter's Home Magazine. It is probably the best seam ripper ever. It is very, verysharp. However, because of this you need to take great care when using it. There is a cover available but it iseasy to lose the cover or forget to put it on. Looks and feels like a surgical knife which is why it works sogreat. Common sense and care need to be taken to avoid any injury to yourself and this should not be left aroundchildren. That said, you will find your "ripping" times less frustrating as the tool will shorten the time necessary to complete this tedious deed.
