This versatile lubricant contains anti-rust and anti-wear EP additives to provide the corrosion protection in drives and hypoid gears. It is not corrosive to copper, bronze, or other non-ferrous alloy bearings and bushings

I have an old, old lathe that someone switched over from line-shaft drive to an electric motor. Part of that conversion is very old (c. 1960's three-speed manual automotive transmission). These transmission have yellow metal components, so modern gl-5 lubricants are not recommended for them. This GL-4 lubricant is doing the job. The transmission runs quietly and shifts like it should. Now does it really matter if you use GL-4? That I don't know, but I do know it's working great.

I'm running this in a NP435 transmission in which the 2nd gear synchronizer has been swapped for a brass (instead of aluminum) part. This lubricant has worked well and is compatible with yellow metals. No complaints here!

This is a GL-4 oil. I had a gl-5 oil in my vintage VW transaxle. Some people claim it does not matter, GL4 or 5, Some GL-5s have a high sulfur content which can damage bronze./yellow metal (syncros) in a manual transmission. I recently replaced the engine in my beetle and decided to change the transaxle oil at the same time. I used this product because it's what's called for GL4 of the correct weight. On my first trip I could tell a positive difference in how the car shifted, down shifted and went into gear. I'm pleased with this oil the effect it had on my car and will use it again.

This is GL-4 oil, which is required in many older manual transmissions. I use it in two Jeeps with Borg-Warner 3-speeds that I own (both T-15s) and it works great.Look at your factory service manual for the specific oil requirements of your manual transmission. Likely any car or truck newer than about 2000ish WILL NOT use GL-4 oil. Do the research and get the proper oil.I use 85W90 GL-5 gear oil in gallon jugs from WalMart in axles. No need for GL-4 in axles; GL-5 is better and much cheaper. Again, do your homework and read the factory service manual for the proper GL grade of oil and weight for your vehicle.

Just bought my second gallon of this oil for my Toyota pickup. I used this oil as break in oil after I rebuilt the w56 trans that is in it. Seems to work just fine. I have about 1500miles on this break in oil and am going to replace it with the same stuff. Eventually I will replacing this stuff with some Redline MT-90, but I wanted to be sure the trans was fully broken in before spending the money on the more expensive fluid. This stuff works well enough that I may never switch over the RL oil. The only issue I have had is that it really needs to get warmed up on cold mornings before it shifts in and out of gear smoothly. Easy fix: just put the trans in gear and the transfer case in neutral and let it warm up for 10-15mins. I usually warm my truck up in the morning anyway, so no big deal. My trans is breaking in nicely and shifts are nice and smooth with no grinding. I do have a little gear whine, but I am not sure how much another fluid would remedy that. Its not loud.. you can just hear it is all. Great fluid! At this price its near impossible to beat!

i've been driving with an np435 swapped into my jeep for several years. i've always just bought off the shelf gear oil from local auto part stores, i've tried many viscosities...never felt like yes thats how this tranny should sound and feel. synthetics shift o.k. but does nothing to muffle normal rattles in these transmissions, complete waste of money. gl5 is always the only other option...shifts and rattles the same as synthetics..sucks! i finally searched for gl4 on line and found this oil, this is absolutely, positively the best oil for these transmissions! much smoother and far less noisy!
