These did the job I needed them for and glad to own them. I think they are a bit over priced for what they are is the only reason I deducted a star.I needed these to cut the heads off of old roofing nails used on old barns to hold original tin style roofing and many of the framing timbers were hardwoods thus pulling nails was out of the question and power was only available with a generator or similar for using a cut-off tool, too much trouble and went manual with these.

I've been looking for a replacement for the "pincers" my dad and I used when he was teaching me to build laminated countertops decades ago. Over those decades, the old ones got dull; got sharpened but really- got worn out. After looking for some time to find a fair balance between a tool and its price, I found these and ordered them. I am not using them for laminate but I think they would work great for hand pre-trimming. They work very well for grabbing staples and nails that don't have much of a head on them and pulling them. That is the main purpose for which they were bought.

Crescent's execution of this size of nipper (14") is really quite good. Normally I'm not one to rave about products....but once in a while a company's product performs really well. As a result, Crescent's manufacturers deserve a nod.I've had one these in service for over 30 years. Still works like a charm. It's a little tired, what with having cut more than one live wire.....So yeah this baby dispatches with all manner of electrical conductors so--well played there. Even better? I use it most often to 'snip' 16d Common. Yep--Common, not box nails (common nails are pretty darned meaty!) I've owned and used variants of this 14" nipper (including Channel Lock's competing product) and the Crescent is the way to go. Hands down. I'm happy to acquire a 2nd pair.

I purchased these nippers to flush cut framing nails that couldn't be pulled, and to pull brad nails that were left behind after removing baseboards and door casing. The clippers worked perfectly in both cases. The forging proved durable as the cutting edges remained intact after cutting numerous framing nails.************Follow-up reviewI used the cutters today to remove a framing nail and the edge chipped. See the attached picture. I'll contact Crescent about warranty replacement and report back. Until then, my rating is adjusted to two stars.************Follow-UpNippers were replaced under warranty. The replacement unit has performed flawlessly. Bumped to four stars.

Fantastic tool for cutting nails both small and large. Very powerful. Long handles for very good leverage. Tried 2 other models (10 inch) and has disappointed. Returned them and bought this tool. Am very pleased. I found that I could cut a protruding nail close to flush by making 2 cuts. The to get rid of most of the nail and the second cut nearly flush with the wall. After 25 cuts, tool still has sharp, good-as-new "jaws". Can't say enough positive things about this tool.

Quality product, that cuts thru the toughest of nails. I was taking down an old barn, and used these to pull or cut the nails on the sheet metal roof. However I found them most useful pulling or cutting nails from the 100 year old boards. The length provides good leverage, I would occasionally use 2 foot pieces of pipe over the handles to provide even more leverage.Only negative is that flush or sunken nails will not come out with this product. The edge of the nippers curve inward, which in many cases will not allow you to access the nail head. Cutting will leave at least a 1/8 inch left.

I'm using the nippers to clip nails that protrude through roof sheathing in a porch area. These nails are spec'ed at a 0.092" shank. It works well for that. There were also just a few #8 screws that protruded through the sheathing, but I am not apparently tough enough to force the nippers to cut those screws. I resorted to a cutting disc on an angle grinder for the screws. The end nippers are good at removing nails in tight quarters - places the grinder wouldn't fit, plus the nippers are faster than the grinder.

I thought this would be perfect for clipping the flooring nails that were protruding 1 - 2 inches through my basement ceiling. (Got tired of getting "nailed" when I reached for something on a high shelf.) It took an incredible amount of effort to cut through the first three nails I tried, and I am not what anyone would consider weak. :-)After those first 3 nails, I realized the nipper cutting edges got chipped in three places. The only possible explanation is that because this section of the house was built in the 1950's, the nails at that time were significantly harder than modern nails. But these were NOT hard cut nails because they were round and pointed. (Very pointed!)I could have returned it, but there were also many thinner nails I needed to clip and I was under a time constraint. So after a couple of minutes on my bench grinder I refinished the cutting edges and used it for the small nails. I think it is ridiculous that a nipper of this size is in my case limited to cutting relatively skinny nails.

These are the greatest nail pullers in the known universe. A friend of mine does fine carpentry, and tipped me off to them. As they arrive, they're still sharp enough to use as non-flush cut end nippers. If you're planning on using them only as nail pullers, a couple drags of a file across the blades will dull them. If not, just use a little lighter touch to prevent cutting the nail off.Good as they are, they're not finish-safe. If you use these on drywall, you will leave the impression of the head on the wall. Stick a wood shim under that bad boy, and you're good to go. I also hit the handles with a couple layers of spray Plasti-Dip. I'd call them just about perfect now. I can't imagine going out to a job without these in my bucket.
