I have loved every book In this series but I really do think this is the best. This is not anything like I thought it would happen. Thank God for Sampson Ned and Ava. What a great story. Now on to #22 to see how the rest of the story ends.

Thrilling all the way through. Have read countless of his books over the years and they still grip from page to page. Brilliant author.

I really enjoyed this book. There is never just one thing going on. James Patterson keeps things very interesting. I am addicted to the series written by Patterson. I am reading the Alex Cross series right now. I am listening to the Private series daily.

This is by far one of the best crime/mystery/thriller novel I read in a long long time.James Patterson is a true genius when it comes to writing. A very very enjoyable read.CAUTION: This book may cause severe lack of sleep as it is highly addictive and you just can't put it down

Every single review that I read regarding this novel states what a ripoff it is, how greedy JP is and how you'll never purchase another of his books again. REALLY? Because I personally LOVE Patterson, his style of writing and his stories. So what if I have to wait a few months to find out what happens. THAT is what makes Patterson THE BEST!I will definitely pay the $10-15 to read what happens in his next book - are you kidding me? I read the Alex Cross & Women's Murder mystery series and haven't felt let down at all by any of the books I've read, and I've read them all.Is everyone seriously whining about the ending and feeling ripped off? This book IS a full book - just because it doesn't have the ending YOU wanted - it's still a full book - so there's nothing wrong with the price! It's just like watching a TV series- you have to keep watching each week to see how it works out - then they leave you hanging on a cliff until the next season. And if you tell me TV is free - I beg to differ. I have to pay a whopping $130 a month just to be able to WATCH TV.This is yet another GREAT Alex Cross installment with yes - a different ending. I think it's great! I was surprised at the ending, but once I read his explanation after the last page- I got excited. He didn't apologize for the way it ended in that statement - he said "Things are about to get exciting" . I cannot wait for the next book to come out!November 2014 comes the 2nd book..HOPE TO DIE - only 4 months to go. YES I PURCHASED IT. AND I got the preview of Hope To Die - out in September! YAY!I'll come back after I read the next book and tell you how awesome it was! Just like this one.

This book drops you like a hot potato right in the middle of Alex Cross's greatest-ever crisis. To read the end of the tale, we will have to buy the sequel, which isn't even available yet. I feel quite sure that I'll be able to resist the temptation.

When you read James Patterson, you don't expect a literary masterpiece, and if you have read a few Alex Cross books, you will know more or less what to expect.I read some of the reviews prior to purchasing the book, and although most of them seemed negative and many people were disappointed, I still decided to give it a try. Boy was I surprised! There are some great villains in this book and the main antagonist, a very interesting weirdo who calls himself Thierry Mulch is so wacky, I cannot wait to read more about his antics! In fact, I think Patterson could have gone even more "over the top" with this character and I hope the second installment of the book showcases just how eccentric, insane and devious this creature can get!I usually skip through all the family intrigues that Patterson includes in his books (I know many love it, but I never really cared much for the grannie and the kids, the new wife and what they have for lunch), but this is the first time where Patterson actually make these usually, dull supporting characters part of the main plot in such a way that I really thought they were all interesting. The way that he incorporated popular culture such as the constant referrals to the TV series "The Walking Dead" also made this book feel more current to me than the last few Alex Cross installments. There are some minor annoyances that you find in all Patterson books, for example the attempt to create empathy for the deranged spree killer by coming up with some absurd background story, and then trying to make Multiple Personality disorder believable. I honestly hope that he does not further explore this storyline in the second installment, as it should have ended when the guy got captured. I was rather surprised that Patterson wrote that the spree killer’s (who was somewhere in his later 20's) mother was a crystal meth addict when he was born, as crystal meth usage and addiction only started to spike from the middle 90's onwards. Heroin addiction would have been more consistent with the timeline.Other than that I found the book extremely gripping!I am really perplexed as to why people complain about this book being the first installment, and complaining about the “abrupt unresolved” ending. Patterson has done this before and it is nothing new to the world of crime writing. For some reason people want instant gratification these days, and we are impatient. Personally I cannot wait for the next installment, and I hope he hurries up. I do agree that the book was a bit shorter than usual and that the price was a bit more than the norm. However, Patterson left me at the edge of my seat with the ending of this book, and for this he really achieved his goal. I am biting my nails until the next installment.

While the book was good, it's hard to overlook what appears a betrayal by the author. Patterson's books have been getting shorter and more trite over the past several years. You get the preview (which is a real selling point) but then upon purchasing for anywhere from $12 -$16, you get something you can read in a couple to three hours. This book, however, is very good, and I had hopes Patterson's ghost writer or collaborator was on to something. Only to be left with a half finished book. Patterson himself was aware of this, hence his note to readers at the end spewing some story that he really was not duping writers, he was doing it for the good of change that all series must have. Ok fine! He could given it to us in another 100 pages and had a gripping novel. Instead he is tapping it out to his next novel in the series, next year. I felt cheated and used as if Patterson didn't trust his readers to be in board with that and needed a year to digest the change. Well here is the change: it was a sorry trick and came across insulting to the intelligence of the reader. Maybe has millions of $'s and can spend on limitless entertainment, but most of his fans make an investment in the books they choose to read. IMO, the follow up to this book should be gratis.
