I was excited to get this specialty hammer although I took a gambol on a product without reviews. I couldn't find one online that had reviews so it would have been a chance either way. I do serious wood window repair and found the need to get one of these. This review may never be read but in case someone else finds a similar need one day, I decided to leave it for their benefit. I am, however stuck unsatisfied with this hammer. It's a hammer and it works. If that's all you want to know and you want the cheapest one, then buy this. However, the head came seated on the handle at an angle which is frustrating because this hammer is intended to be used on glazing points at the same angle either way. So, one side of the hammer has to be used at a larger angle than the other. The side that must be used with the small angle more readily bumps into the sash with less space to grip the hammer. I realize it is a specialty hammer, but for $30 you would hope to not have to re-seat the head onto another hammer in order to get what you paid for. I have not reached out to anyone in support because I need it for a job this coming week. The reason this is a two star review instead of three is that the hammer came chipped on one of the face edges. I've worked in manufacturing and shipping. This defect would probably have been noticed and sent out the door anyway. Or its been sitting around for years without being stored carefully. There is also discoloration on some other edges which is hopefully not due to loss of temper. Though that cold explain the chip. If I knew enough about steel and was sure that the temper on any part of the face was off this would be a one star review. If I find out that I'm wrong in my suspicion, I would be willing to remove this part of the review. The handle is hickory at least. Probably not heartwood, but for a small light duty hammer it wouldn't need to be.If the angle wasn't messed up, I probably would have ignored the other defects and given it four stars. I will have to make do with this product and if you are okay with these defects then maybe you can too. Personally, it would have been worth spending more for a hammer without a skewed handle that I will eventually have to tweak or replace. Maybe $30 isn't enough to get a decent quality, specialty SMALL hammer and I expected too much. While browsing online for glazing hammers, I came across one or two others that are more expensive but maybe worthwhile if you don't have to do extra work. As far as I could tell, they were also unreviewed. Good luck.
