Everything here is plug and play no extra stuff needed besides the spdif cable. It locks into my 2 appollo x8p when I want to go adat from a laptop into it

I'm not sure why a reviewer gave this item a poor review. Maybe the seller was able to update the product description before my order but I understood when I ordered this adapter that it was an audio out device. It doesn't input audio into the device that the adapter is plugged into, it only sends a signal out.I was able to connect a toslink cable to my iphone via this adapter and then connect to a stereo receiver. This allowed me to transmit audio from a recording I made on my iphone to the receive without issue. Sound quality was good and I had no connection issues.So my experience with this item was quite different than some previous reviewers. I found that it worked as described.

On both devices I used this on it put out a pathetically quiet output which was not useful for my purpose, and imho is not useful for anyone's.I did not experience the problems others had, but the incredibly cheap feel of this device leads me to suspect that it wouldn't last even if it didn't work.

I purcased 2 of these devices a few weeks ago. The first on got very hot after about 20 minutes use so I threw it away. Then, I discovered after a few times use that the second adapter was throttling my speed by about 50%. Not of much use when testing an installation. On the fourth or fifth time I tried used it, I could not connect to the LAN. Ibtried several times using two different phones.

I wanted this product to work so bad. With my system, however, the audio skipped and stuttered. It needed it to output from a 2023 Mac Mini to the optical in on a stereo. I tried multiple ports on both devices and it still skipped. Item seems to be quality and it may work for your gear.
