Update: they refunded my money. We are going to try again. 😀Original review: The culture came expired. I decided to try anyway, but after 30 days it did not ferment, and my window for returns has passed. If you receive an expired product my advice is return immediately.

Starter didn't work - did all steps exactly as stated! A friend said that sometimes these kits don't work - sorry to say, she was correct! Won't purchase again!

I was recently introduced to Kombucha and since I am a DIY girl at heart, I decided I wanted to make my own. The kit has everything you need to get started except for the jar. You will need a quart sized jar and I believe a rubber band. Here's the catch. The first batch of kombucha has to ferment for 30 days. I am horrible at remembering to tend to things longer than a week. I've done pretty okay with tending to my batch. Sort of. But I forgot to write down when I started my brew. I'm also sort of confused on my next steps. The instructions are not the best. Or maybe it's just me? If you want to make your own, I would say give this a go. It has everything you need and I'm positive you could find supplementary instructions online. I've just been lazy in looking for them myself.Inside the kit you'll find tea, sugar, vinegar, cheese cloth, a stick on thermometer, and your starter SCOBY and instructions. It is perfect for us DIY'ers.

Didn't really turn out like it was supposed to and I followed all the directions.

I am very disappointed. The kit that I ordered and received in November 2017, had an expiration date July 2017. Given that Kombucha requires a live culture this is unacceptable.

My batch had mold, I think the scoby didn’t ever reactive. I suggest just buying a live scoby.

Save yourself time and money and purchase a live, active SCOBY from Amazon instead. This kit comes with a dehydrated SCOBY that takes 30 days to reactivate. Though I followed directions to the T, this SCOBY just never really got off the ground. It does ferment my sweet tea, but it's not making babies. I purchased a live SCOBY and set up a second batch and it was reproducing as expected from my first batch. I actually added a small (quarter sized) piece of a SOBY baby to the batch containing my from- dehydrated SCOBY and the Amazon SCOBY grew by three times its size within a day while the anemic dehydrated SCOBY is still just floating there all thin and sad. Other than the dehydrated SCOBY the kit has a couple of tea bags, some muslin, vinegar, litmus strips, and sugar. Buy yourself a live SCOBY, muslin, and a 2 L jar. You've got everything else in your pantry already anyway.
