Who knew spinning yarn into cakes would be so fun! I have several skeins that have been used to the point of being loose and some that don’t have center pulls so I turned them all into cakes. This yarn spinner works great! It is extremely simple to set up, and it’s easy to get the yarn in place and begin winding. I only have two small complaints, one is that the center rod that the yarn winds around doesn’t click into place, so if you get too much tension and spin in a counter-clockwise direction, you end up spinning the center around enough to pop it right out. I do believe the instructions did say to spin clockwise, but it’s easiest to operate sideways so it’s easy to get the spinning direction backwards when you’re going quickly, so keep that in mind! The second complaint is that the arm that holds the string in place doesn’t sit flat on the surface of the table which gets in the way of making really large cakes. When they get big enough to start touching the arm I have to hold it down myself or find something heavy to place on it. You could easily tape it down too, and once it sits flat, you can go quite a bit further with the size of the cakes! Even with those slight hiccups, I had VERY few issues and wound dozens of cakes within a couple of hours. It’s addicting and satisfying. My largest cake was about 5oz in a worsted weight yarn. You would probably only get 7oz cakes if you were winding a huge fingering weight skein, there just isn’t enough room between the rod and the arm for any bigger worsted weight cakes. Overall, this yarn winder works fantastic and is pretty good quality!

A basic hand crank winder. it will do the job but it will fight you a little here and there. Nothing wrong with it overall but it's just kinda basic.It'll help if you didn't have any other ball winder and makes pretty balls.

This yarn winder is AMAZING! It took a little bit of tweaking to get the yarn tension just right while it’s winding, but I absolutely love this gadget. I’ve wound every skein in the house and the yarn cakes are much easier to manage and the yarn dispenses without much effort or pulling. LOVE this product.

I love this thing!! I have made 48 balls of yarn out of all the skeins of yard I inherited it when my gradma passes in 2021. This little handy dandy device makes it go so quickly and it saves much more space.
