I have been using GHS and I switched to these strings, and they sounded awful. I play in a lot of jam sessions and on stage. If you are just trying to play and dont know anything else, these would be ok, but for someone who tries to keep up with Martin, gibson, and taylor guitar sounds, my banjo has to be crisp and really ping when I play. I thought my banjo just needed re-set up so I took it to a professional who looked at it, and he said all he had to do was put a new wooden bridge that really didnt need it, and he said it just needed new strings. So your call!

I only use these strings on my Mastertone ESS. Many others are flat or are like picking telephone cable.

Fabulous. I was given my Banjo as a gift and it came with heavy guage strings. After restringing with the D'Addario light guage phosphor Bronze set the difference is amazing.

I bought one set of these strings (now two) and have them on my Gibson RB-3W banjo. Excellent, very crisp tone and the phosphor bronze fifth string really brings out that Mastertone "growl" on the lower register.While the custom medium-gauge D'Addario strings I have used for years would last seemingly forever, I did notice a drop-off in the crispness of the tone after a couple of weeks of heavy playing.I'll continue to use these strings in the future.
