Reserve reeds are crafted using naturally-grown cane from D'Addario's own foreign fields. Reserve reeds are cut to the tightest tolerances, offering the most consistent performance.

I have used the D'Addario tenor reeds before and they performed well. The D'Addario Reserve I ordered from Amazone however are very stiff and hard to play.I will not be using them again.

The best word to describe these reeds is consistent. Out of a box of 5 tenor reeds, I find about 4 ready to play out of the box, and can usually work on the fifth one to make it playable. I usually find about 2 "performance" reeds. Compared to my other standby, Vandoren, I find a much higher percentage that are playable without adjustment. I started using these when I was getting my Master's in Music degree and they were still branded as Rico Reserve. I haven't noticed any change in quality since they dropped the Rico brand. My biggest complaint is that they don't seem to have quite the life span as their Vandoren counterparts. I can usually get 2-3 weeks of serious playing time on a Vandoren, where I feel the Reserves start going soft around 2 weeks time. I think the trade off is well worth it since I don't have to dump almost any reed out of the box. Also a big fan of the Reserves on Alto.
