What can I say that hasn’t already been said...The SP minnow gets the job done, and targets BIG striper. I have had excellent repeated success on the green mackerel pattern SP minnow (floating) in the surf, and decided recently to try the straight basic chrome color. about 20 minutes of casting in front of my house landed a big Striper. Most anglers straight retrieve this plug, but I catch a lot of fish on this bait by jerking it around and retrieving it at different speeds with some twitches and pauses in between, sometimes just on a simple straight retrieve but it seems to work better with a little bit more erratic of an action, almost like how you would work a smaller jerkbait for largemouth but Striper love that presentation. What actually prompted me to come on here and write this review about just how effective this plug is, is the fact that the second fish I caught today was while I was doing absolutely nothing while the bait was legit just floating there in the water. I got hit by a wave and got way more wet than I expected and stopped for about five seconds to just get my footing and lone and behold a striper literally hit it while it was just sitting there. The lure casts incredibly far which is why I believe it is one of the most effective surfcasting plugs for striper, it’s pretty much the ideal one size fits all type profile, as it’s not TOO big to completely alienate smaller schoolies, but it is a large enough profile to primarily target the bigger fish. I mean this thing will go half a mile even on lighter tackle. If you don’t have at least one or two of these things in your tacklebox what are you even doing??
