SUSTAINABILITY

Darn Tough aims to improve the well-being of our community by locally designing and manufacturing the most comfortable, durable, best fitting socks while continuously reducing our environmental impacts.

MATERIALS IN OUR SOCKS

Every material we use in our socks has been carefully chosen and tested to meet our rigorous durability standards. We currently use natural and synthetic fibers, and only 3 types of fiber per sock. As you’d expect, we are actively investigating and testing new fibers and yarn blends that do not appear in our current products. We’ve prioritized Merino wool throughout our product lines and our goal of producing the most responsibly made product is reflected in our commitment to the success of the Responsible Wool Standard.

SOCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

We live and work in Northfield, Vermont. Our backyard is the perfect testing ground to make the finest Premium All Weather Performance Socks. We ski, snowboard, hike, bike and run in the most unforgiving climate in the lower 48. It is under these conditions that we design, test and manufacture our socks.

STILL MADE IN VERMONT, USA

After so many decades why do we still knit every pair of our socks here in Vermont? We don’t do it because it’s the easy thing to do—we do it because it’s the right thing to do. We do it because for us, it’s the only way to do it. There are faster and cheaper alternatives but nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.

  • ONE FAMILY - We are family owned. For 40 years we’ve been knitting socks in the Green Mountains
  • ONE MISSION - Darn Tough is a family-owned, American manufacturer of end-use-specific socks.
  • ONE MILL - Every step of the knitting process happens right here, by us, locally, in Northfield, VT

Not too thin or too heavy, with just the right amount of cushioning

These are great. Very warm and they stay up on your calf.

My friends love darn toughs and I got my first pair of before a trip to Alaska in October (worst time to visit Juneau because of all the rain). I stepped in mud a few times on a hike and had waterproof hiking shoes on, but if my socks got wet, I sure didn’t feel it.I got this pair for a ski trip in Colorado. I was a little on the fence with sizing. I am typically a 7.5 in shoes and have a pair of small socks and a pair of mediums (smalls have the thinner material and mediums are a more cushioned pair). The smalls are a bit short on my foot but the mediums are roomy. I ended up getting mediums in these since they’re the thinner socks (and I didn’t want the smalls to be too tight through my calves). These fit great. My feet did feel slightly cold a couple times, but it wasn’t bad and didn’t last long (I was only on bunny slopes so not in the coldest temps).Love that darn tough has the cutest socks and a lifetime warranty so if anything happens on future ski trips, I’ll be able to get a replacement.

I'm a little obsessed with the northern lights, haha, so these are perfect for me. They fit great, they're snug on the calves and stay up but they don't squeeze. Both socks are the same so on one leg the aurora image is on the outside and on the other leg it's on the inside. I believe that's how Darn Tough does all of their patterned socks. Some people don't like this but I'm totally fine with it - the design is beautiful all the way around so it doesn't matter to me!

They're Darn Tough—you know you're getting quality! My only complaint, and I took a star off for it, is that they're too long for my short legs. I have about a 27" inseam, and I find that they actually go OVER my knee at full stretch. I kind of have to pull them down in increments to get them below my knee, and it’s not the most comfortable.Still, overall it doesn't bother me that much, and I love my socks! Just let me know if y'all ever make an over the calf sock for shorties.

these are really pretty and well-made socks however they are really tight so I’m really not sure about wearing them for any amount of time. They honestly feel like compression socks.

I love the Aurora Borealis, aka Northern Lights. I spend many cold nights outdoors with my cameras photographing them. I ordered the Darn Tough socks Aurora Style 8036 in aqua, and was shocked when the two socks arrived printed exactly alike, instead of mirror imaged to display the Aurora on the outside of each leg. I contacted Darn Tough, whose agent, Nate responded that “Most people expect their socks to be mirror images, but we don’t make them like that.”So, if you are purchasing Darn Tough socks with an image that you love, be forewarned that only one sock will show that image. Shameful for socks that are so expensive!
