This item, seemingly simple to use needs one very important instruction. Make sure you pull the axle assembly outboard, towards you when torquing the nut otherwise the unit cannot push the inner axle away from the joint.

Manufacturers are starting to put a retaining clip in the end of the shaft to the joint can't be pulled off. If the joint does not come off with a minimal amount of yanking with this tool, you have one that is not made to be fixed. That is pretty dirty of the manufacturers of the axles. I am guessing it has to be shredded in one of those large recyclers, for melting down and recasting into another useful part. I put enough pressure on the shaft I was yanking on to break my wrench, just stopping before it happened because I understood something was keeping it from coming off. Flip a coin. That is about as good of a chance that you have one that can be fixed with this tool.

This tool is low price and as such it is not as strong as more expensive models. I couldn’t get this tool to pull off the small CV joints on a Kawasaki mule.It started bending. I ended up cutting both old joints off with a grinder to save the factory shafts. Tedious.

This puller is used to separate the axle from the cv joint. It works very well, is highly adjustable functionally, the bottom of the puller is bolted solidly to the axle while the axle bolt is screwed in through the round part on top. Works amazingly well. The steel structure is more than adequate for the forces involved. In short, well made and very useful.

Seems to be built decently, works well and a lit more affordable than the brand name ones for home use
