Excellent products for our pontoon boat. We bought two, they extend long enough to be able to paddle from the deck and they retract small enough to fit inside the seat storage.

Considering this paddle is for emergency use you dont want to play around and save maybe ten bucks on the cheap models. When your motor is dead and the wind is blowing you back to the dock or rocks and you risk thousands of dollars of damage, do you want the cheap paddle that breaks ? Read the reviews of all the other paddles and see how many break. Humorously, I owned the paddle for about a year before I realized the bottom part of the paddle telescopes just like the top/handle part of the paddle to make an even longer easier to use paddle. If someone made an even more expensive paddle I would buy it because I never want to be stranded without a working paddle.

Would have given 5 stars but one of the paddles came without the orange cover on the tip. These look great, going out for a week on the boat so if I use them I will update on how they perform. Hopefully I will be using them just because I want to see if they work and not because I have to see how they work :)

Maybe I just got unlucky . . . other reviews are good, but I got two duds. I bought one and it locked in the extended position on day one. Two strong guys couldn't twist/retract it. So, I returned it. They sent me a new one, and this one won't lock in the extended position (just slides back and forth), straight out of the box. Twisting doesn't engage. The telescoping part can pull all the way out so I can see down the tube-- looks like the connector is crushed? I am pretty handy and take good care of my stuff, so I don't think I busted two? And, it is an emergency device, so should be robust. I just got my first boat and have a toddler daughter. I really wanted to have something I could trust to help me fish her out if she ever went overboard. Double fail.

This paddle is lightweight but strong. I love the hook as it helps me reach items in the boat from the driver's seat as well as grabbing the dock when I am ready to tie up. The handle expands and contracts easily and when it is in its contracted position is easily tucked out of the way. I love it.

This is a great paddle to have on the boat for emergencies. I have a 20-foot fishing boat, and this is perfect for the worst case, an engine failure, or even simply retrieving something from the water. It's really well made, the bright color can be useful for getting attention in an emergency, and the hook and bumper on the end is a great idea. Overall I am really happy with it. I might get a second one for just in case situations.

This boat hook serves my purpose nicely. I have a small boat (16 ft) and don't have a lot of space to store stuff. This boat hook doubles as a paddle, so it kills two birds at once. When extended, the length almost triples because there are two telescoping parts. The handle extends, but you can also extend the paddle end as well, so it is a 3 part extension. The locking mechanism is rather ingenious. I haven't seen anything quite like it. Rotate counter-clockwise to loosen, then just a 1/4 turn clockwise locks the extension. You can rotate counter-clockwise as much as you want, but when you rotate clockwise, it just takes 1/4 turn to lock it in place. One thing that I didn't like, don't use this boat hook to fend off (e.g., push away). Unless you really tighten hard the boat hook could collapse if you use it to push against the dock or something. Pulling is not a problem if the hook is fully extended, but if you rely on this to fend off when coming into dock, it might collapse and you might ding your boat. Giving only 4 stars for that reason.

I just received the paddle, and it seems very well built. I looked at several others, including some hands on testing. The extension system works very well- it locks up tight and seems very sturdy- no flex even when it is fully extended. The other paddles that I've checked out did not lock up tightly when extended and seemed to have more flex. I hope that I never have to use the paddle, but if my motor fails, I think that this paddle will get me back to shore. The hook is also very strong and will most likely be used more often than the paddle portion. I know this paddle is a little more expensive than others, but I feel that you are getting more value for your money. If you understand the difference between cost and price, and want to have a paddle that you can rely on if the S#@t hits the fan, then this is the paddle for you.

I just received my paddles today. I checked out all available to me in the stores in my area before ordering these. Gander, Basspro Cabelas, and Fleetfarm. These are the best. They have the feel of quality. They lock up solid. The extensions slide well. The tubing is thicker than the others. The boat hooks are made of Lexan. These paddles are NOT Chinese garbage like the others. They are the real thing. They are for emergency use on my fishing boat and I hope I never need them. If I do; I know they will be up to the job.
