The inner sides of this are angled straight upward instead of tilting outward at all, so this narrows the width of your dash panel holder. I had a portable speaker that used to fit the stock space perfectly, but it no longer does with this holder. Otherwise, the depth is great, and the extra storage spaces are also quite nice to have.

Panel was easy to install. Removed rubber liner in original tray and used the installation screws that came with the new panel. If I ever decide to remove the new panel, I can cover the small drill holes with the original rubber pad. As far as the new panel, it provides more secure storing of items when needed. It's slippery, so I cut a couple of pieces of rubber (not included) to reduce sliding.

I have been wanting this for a couple of years. I finally ordered it, received, and installed it.Installation with the double faced tape (not included) was easy. I used the tape that has the foam between two layers of adhesive (http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00004Z4A8) and it fit great. Two two inch long pieces should do it. My Jeep interior stays dry. If yours gets wet, you might want to use some stainless screws to hold the tray in instead of tape or the included screws.I wanted the higher walls to hold my phone. I run with the doors off from May to September and have had a few close calls going around corners and having my phone in the stock tray. This should open up the cup holder I had resorted to using for my phone and ipod.Update 9/21/2018 - I still love this tray. It does a great job. It is one of the easiest, cheapest, and best upgrades to the Jeep.

..but this upgrade has deeper sides! The Daystar Dash Panel fits very well on my 2004 LJ Wrangler dash; installation was incredibly simple with the two self-tapping screws (included). The divided trays up front are too shallow by themselves to be of much use, but as part of a very deep tray, they hold several pens, eyeglasses or sunglasses, and the occasional Chapstick with ease. The same amount of 'stuff' in the stock top tray wouldn't have stayed in place.Installation involved removing the rubberized mat from the stock tray and screwing the Dash Panel in place on top of that. I was mildly surprised to notice that although the deep rear tray is *almost* the same size and shape as the stock tray, the mat doesn't quite fit in there as snugly. I might look into trimming it a bit later this summer, but my overall impression is great.It's one of those rare parts that you install and wonder, "Why didn't Jeep do this from the start?"
