By increasing the original ND90's voice coil diameter from 3/4" to 1" and adding a copper alloy shorting ring, the ND91-8 features even lower distortion and delivers better bass impact and dynamic range?with peak Xmax up to 25 mm! This high-BL version further exploits the low distortion characteristics of the Neo-Balanced motor's optimized magnetic field, making the ND91 drivers an excellent choice for full-range point-source speaker enclosures, as well as extremely accurate, high resolution line arrays.

Very impressive performance for it's size. Does require rather sizeable enclosure or use of pasive radiators which increases cost. Still 5 Stars though

Using these in some desktop enclosures (0.57 liter, walnut baffle with plywood box filled with blocks to adjust volume) and a triode 6L6 amplifier. The bass slam is absurd for a small driver, plus they are addictively musical. I've been on a jag building full-range desktop speakers for the past eight months; have tried six different drivers in optimized acoustic suspension boxes - these are special in near-field use, pick of the litter so far.

I was really hoping for some better low range performance. Don't get me wrong, the speaker is loud and crisp, it's just not great with depth.

For a 3.5 inch full-range driver, this is one of the best. I was testing it as a possible selection for a Line-array project using 25 of these drivers in each main speaker enclosure. Mid-range, Mid-bass, and bass were very well represented. For use in the Line-array though, it lacked high end sparkle. I am afraid that a Line-array with only these drivers would leave me wanting in the higher frequencies. My search will continue. I may need to combine different full-range drivers as I just have not found one that handles the full-range well. This is one of the very few that handles the lower range well. Most do well with the upper range and lack the bass. Maybe a combination of different full-range drivers will be the solution. This way no crossover network is needed. As a single driver in an enclosure, it does very well for voice. Accurate and natural sounding. Falls off on both ends as might be expected for a full-range driver of this size.
